I wonder if 980 CFPL from London will be next. Since I listen to CBC London's Morning show and the Afternoon drive show more now.

Why not sell to CHIN radio to replace 1530.They were upset about not even knowing about 1150,610 sale.

What a tragedy. They were a great station in their day, until the vicissitudes of radio (not to mention the disaster that has been Corus) got their hands on it. Another very, very sad day.
Website now links to Global News.
Never mind CFPL - could AM640 also be in danger or would closing stations in the major markets like Toronto and Vancouver be the ultimate last resort? (They've already closed two in Vancouver, so nothing is for sure.)

So now none of the 3 CORUS Hamilton studios have anyone in them until 2pm

From the Hamilton Spectator:
900 CHML to close, ending nearly a century of talk radio in Hamilton

CHIN would be better off leasing or buying 820 or 1150. CHML did not get out well for 50kWs.
Sad news though. Their morning news was solid.

The fallout has not escaped London. From the CBC story on the shutdown:
"In London, Ont., Global News's AM980 laid off two full-time and two part-time employees on Wednesday. They were reporter and news reader positions."

On this mornings Ben Mulroney's 9-Noon there was recurring dead air during the expected ad and news placements .. one about 9 minutes in length .. I thought it was just technical trouble. -On the CHML feed of course

Um yeah, it's a bit of a surprise that CJOY has the lights on, but CHML has to close...???
It's good to know that (ALSO) another station out there, in Mississauga (another company) makes more money than CHML...wait! I honestly don't know if I am being serious of funny...

What does this mean for Roy Green? He did his show out of the CHML studios.

It makes sense to move him over to AM 640's studios.

He can still do it from the CHML studio.
Can he? Are they are staying in the same building? Or moving to smaller studios with Hamilton's AM absent?

If they move he can do it from Y108 or Energy. Not like they're using those when he's on.

They'd have to keep on a producer in that case, unless they do what CFRB does with its nightly "The Shift." Talent is in Ottawa, production crew X2 is in Toronto.

Is CJOY still going?
For now, likely not by September.

Another question: who will carry the Hamilton Ti-Cat games now? Weren't they on CHML? There are no more AM outlets left to cover the games.
Plenty of reaction from some well known names on Twitter, including Mayor Andrea Horwath, "Bubba" O'Neill, Carmi Levy, Brian Lilley, Matt Holmes, some now former behind-the-scenes staffers and more. See them here.

Given that it's paid time, I can see them putting it on Y108.

CHML was always a nice change from 640 and 1010. Enjoyed listening to Scott Thompson in the afternoon and Rick Zamperin in the morning from time to time. Sad news for a once great radio station.

Here's the final newscasts at 9 and 9:30, and the sign-off, plus a couple of blocks dead air that went out between 10 AM.and noon.

CTV News London did a report on 980 CFPL firings and the shutdown of 900 CHML.
