According to the Entertainment Tonight website (which is helping to produce it) it's supposed to air at 8 PM Eastern. Zap2it.com indicates it will only be an hour long special.

Judd Hirsch, who co-starred with Bob Newhart in their short-lived late '90s sitcom George & Leo, also had some nice things to say about Bob and his experience on the show. Although the show got cancelled due to low ratings, it did manage to squeak out a full season of 22 episodes. (Remember when full seasons were over 20 episodes long?)

Although he didn't seem to be overly bitter about the show's cancellation, Bob lamented that this would probably be his last effort in a starring role in a sitcom (which it would, and came on the heels of his just-cancelled sitcom from a few years back, Bob.)

I remember watching a few episodes of George & Leo and actually finding it quite funny. The two main actors seemed to play off of each other quite well, and Jason Bateman, who was also a star in the series, was starting to hone his comedic chops, too.

Although it doesn't appear that a DVD release of the show is imminent (although who knows, as Bob has actually seen a full series release), someone appears to have uploaded the whole series on YouTube. I don't think it's currently streaming anywhere.

I was really glad they touched on Newhart's incredible and unlikely friendship with Don Rickles. It was legendary and I'm not sure how many people knew about it. When they were on a talk show together, it was always a segment of non-stop laughter.

I would recommend doing it sooner than later, because eventually, they remove it and place it on the Paramount+-only tier, where you can't get to it unless you subscribe. For now, though, it's free. 

Newhart Tribute Special

Thanks for posting Paul.  I completely forgot about the special on Monday.  I thought it was well done and had some interesting segments.  Nice that Bob seemed to be the same person in real life as what we saw and loved on TV.  He certainly had a great marriage and family life.  I had no idea that he had never won an Emmy award until near the end of his television career, and that the second CBS Newhart show was nominated for many Emmy's but never won. 

Also I was not aware that he was such a pioneer in stand up comedy and his first comedy album, The Buttoned Down World Of Bob Newhart reached number one on Billboard.  That is quite the feat for a comedy album, especially in 1960.  And to win Album Of The Year in 1961 at the Grammy's was unheard of.  Newhart also won Best New Artist at the Grammy's that year which has never happened again for a comedy artist.
