This nut job gets put in cuffs every couple of years. I read Rebel has "retained lawyers" which is probably just their burned out ambulance chasing founder Ezra Lavant. They will crowd fund for Menzie's "defense". Let the grift begin.

The charges were dropped almost immediately. I am sure David will be on Fox News tonight yapping about the sad state of democracy in Canada. Hannity and the former Tucker Carlson had him on a fair bit.

Ah yes, an inside job to raise his profile

Rebel News is not news. It is a far right wing provocateur website that is a product of the failed SUN TV news network headed by the arguably sociopathic Ezra Levant.
Menzies has a record of Anti Muslim hate.
He is known to the RCMP and other law enforcement organizations.
He is a vile individual.
The idea that Pierre Poilievre is coming to his defence as a persecuted "journalist" is further proof of the Conservative leader's own extremist leanings and malicious misinformation campaign a la Trump.
But it is also a shame that an RCMP officer appeared to set Menzies up for a brief arrest
I think that was an error in judgement that has only given fuel to the anti Muslim racist moron and his horrid organization.

I’d be willing to bet that Rebel had the grifting website set up even before the incident happened.

Years ago David "Menzoid" Menzies was an occasional panelist on John Oakley's morning show & proved every appearance what a Grade A A-hole he was .. just a belligerent, loud-mouthed boor.

Somewhat inexplicably (or not depending on your stance) - Oakley had this agitator on again yesterday...and once again, I feel he proved your assessment to be accurate.

That's low even for Oakley.

Penny to a pound that Rebel News is fundraising off this incident.
Just one more thing: You know who helped to found Rebel News? Brian Lilley...now a columnist at the Toronto Sun.

John Tory just let Rebel's Ezra Levant rant on CFRB for almost 15 minutes. It was absolutely unbelievable. It's rare, but I'm pretty much speechless after hearing that. I'm not sure that was the wisest thing to put on their airwaves.
[Edit] They just announced he'll be appearing on AM640, too. Playing right into his hands they all are, sadly.

Unbelievable? In my view this is where talk radio service is most fitting. Frank conversations and confrontations.

Absoultely right
BTW Newstalk 1010 failed miserbly on the 10 a.m. newscast
The newscaster had 7 or 8 minutes of fresh tape with Levant & John Tory battling back & forth - from which to extract the most up-to-the minute info on this story. But instead they ran a John Woodward CTV clip that was produced YESTERDAY
Absoutely piss poor

I agree with RA -- 1010 made a very bad mistake indulging Ezra Levant -- regarded as a sociopathic hate monger.
Whever was in charge (Robert Turner?) should have nixed Levant's segment with John Tory right away.
What's worse, Tory would not let the subject go and carried it on with the next guest, Amanda Galbraith.
Levant stages grifts for fundraising.
Here's how it goes.
They stage a stunt that gets them sued, arrested, charged with something, then they grift their subscribers for money for legal defence.
When they get to court they plead guilty or strike a plea deal and keep all the money sent to them for now, not needed legal fees.

It also perversely energizes their base. Like with Trump. Their Great One being persecuted...

Exactly. There are some people who are unhappy unless they're outraged. Often, they're incapable of formulating their anger in a cogent way, so they jump on the hate bandwagon and let mouthpieces like Levant and tRump scream for them.
A pox on them all and the damage they're doing to our democracies.

Tory announced on air that Levant called into the station requesting to be interviewed. I have no direct knowledge, but it didn't sound like anyone in management even knew it was coming until it was already on the air. A newsmaker they'd been talking about made himself available, so they took advantage of it. If you're at a station that deals with talk and news, that must have been hard to resist.

Ezra Levant was true to his promise that the anti Muslim hate truck would not stop.
I saw it today, and was actually driving right behind it.
Guess where.
Right outside Toronto police headquarters on College Street!
Also I discovered the hate messages do not stop at Muslims. They include LGBTQ as well.
And the messages against Muslims definitely incite violence.
One message shows Muslims praying and the text asks, "What are you going to do?"
If that isn't incitement to violence I don't know what is.

I heard Ezra mention he was going to do this when he was on with Furey covering for Pierson on 640.

So, it's okay to talk 'politics' around here, as long as you're pro-Hamas, and anti-Levant? I have zero use for either of them, so I guess that makes me neutral?

I understand exactly what you're saying and this does, indeed, skirt the line. But it happened on two separate Toronto radio stations Friday morning and also involved a self-styled Internet "broadcaster." And we haven't heard the end of it yet. So that's why I've allowed it to go on, with no small amount of indecision about whether this is a good thing to explore here or not.
I'm hoping we'll move on to something else soon, because frankly, this guy isn't worth giving the publicity he's constantly seeking.

Neither is Hamas. Last time I checked, as unlikable as he is, Levant hadn't murdered anyone.

correct me if I'm wrong but nowhere in this threat have I seen anyone defend Hamas. To me the main point is that the Rebel News bus allows hate speech against Muslims -- which it does.
As far as I have read nobody condones terrorist actions by Hamas.

The test isn't committing murder. Inciting hatred and/or murder is an offence. So somehow the 'law' has to interpret a message showing Muslims praying and text asking, "What are you going to do?" I haven't seen the truck for a full picture. But I would imagine the police had ample time to gain a full picture, given the truck's latest locale, so maybe the story will continue to unfold.

I think the issue, as far as SOWNY is concerned, is political actors using the media to further their interest or cause. In fact, this happens every time an entity issues a news release, and of course that happens across the political spectrum, as well as serving other interests besides overtly political.
Also interesting to factor in is the teflon effect. Nothing entirely new, of course, but political actors have moved the bar considerably the last few years in terms of taking accusations, charges and convictions of corruption and criminal acts and using them to motivate and strengthen their base - and using the media (including online media) as one of many tools to accomplish this. One could also argue that goings-on with respect to Hunter Biden have also emboldened some of his base. So this isn't purely a discussion favouring any particular ideology. Media scholars will be studying this for some time to come, so it's certainly topical here.
