The veteran Buds broadcaster went on Twitter/X to blame fans at the game for not giving enough "energy" to the team at Scotiabank Arena.
Many fans shot back that the team is too corporate and the tickets too expensive for an average noisemaking fan to attend.

One would think that the players making $$millions should be enough incentive that they have energy and not have to rely on the crowd!

Online!
Joe Bowen is no Phil Esposito.

The Leafs lost because of the team...not the fans..

I do so enjoy the perpetual twilight of this magical thinking.

Real hockey died, along with the Leafs' championship runs, in 1967.

For those who have waited so long, here's what it looked like the last time the Leafs won the Cup. Given how TV technology has changed, I suspect the coverage (and the hype) would be very different this time.

We the fans have been disappointed for 57 seasons. Is it possible that might be a root cause, that we're finally tired of the less than stellar outcomes in the playoffs and pay dearly for a ticket.
Mmmm... me thinks so.

That's what happens when you only have rich people in the stands. The last time the Leafs won a Stanley Cup it was actually affordable for the real fans to go to the games. Definitely not the case anymore. Also too many overly wealthy players who can't wait to get on to the golf course.

To paraphrase the former Leaf Tiger Williams:
Aside from true die-hards, who might not be able to afford tickets, perhaps fan loyalty is 'done like dinner'.

I had the game on the radio and from what I could hear, the fans were chanting Go Leafs! and also for Sammy but it may have felt and sounded different if you were at the rink.
Congratulations to Joe, Jim and the broadcast team who (even if the "fan$" didn't show up for the team) sure as heck upped their game and brought the listeners solid playoff energy. 👏👏👏📻🍻🏒

Say it ain't so, Joe!
Actually Joe would never say anything bad about the team, homers aren't allowed to and Joe is unabashedly one of the biggest homers of all time.

If the Leafs are eliminated in six games, that will happen on Thursday May 2nd which happens to be the 57th anniversary of their last Stanley Cup Championship.
