In all of the reportage, I'm surprised that no outlet has considered the possibility that this was either due to a mechanical malfunction with the vehicle, or that the driver experienced a major medical event...

I've heard the medical event possibility touted on several outlets, but the truth is, we may never really know what happened. The only two people who can explain it are dead.

Reports say it was a Bentley. Maybe they were high rollers at the casino?

Either 'God is great!' or 'Oh shit!' I guess that's the job of the security bosses, to find out...
This morning I heard that they had just been to a casino. Too my knowledge the closest on the US side at that location is Seneca Niagara and from my experience in spending a full week there on a business training course, it's a freaking pit that's not well liked by the locals. But it is a cheap place to gamble and a 6 minute drive to the crime scene.

A Bentley in WNY? Seems unlikely. Could have been a Chrysler 300 (a.k.a the People's Bentley), with 'Detroit Rock City' reportedly heard blaring.

All reports seem to agree it was a Bentley.
Motorist who ploughed into Canadian border was a 'New York businessman driving $300k Bentley' with his wife

Some Bentley models have digital "drive-by-wire" accelerator & steering systems and have reportedly been the subject of recalls
Perhaps Alan Gelman will have information on this on his regular Saturday morning Dave's Corner Garage program

There's one peripheral local radio story attached to this from a distance - this couple was apparently on their way to Toronto to see the Kiss concert. They obviously never made it.
AM 640's Alex Pierson was also going to take her kid to the supposedly final-ever show by the group. But when Paul Stanley got the flu, the gig was cancelled. By that point, Pierson had arranged to take Thursday off to recover and sleep in (Anthony Furey has taken her place.)
Which means she essentially wasted a vacation day on a show that didn't go on.

Think about all the societal damage done by decades of lies and inflammatory language on Fox News and encouraged by its disgusting owner.

Maybe too much of the above caused Paul Stanley to call in sick 😄

I remember the false claim that the perpetrators of 9/11 came into the USA from Canada that was widely parroted by Republican politicians at the time.
And here we go again! Several Republican Congresscritters jumped the gun, calling it a terrorist attack and blaming Canada. And Pierre Poilievre in the House called it a terrorist attack. Apparently some never bothered to take down their X tweets either. One of them was Ted Cruz, born in Calgary. From CityNews:
Some were quick to blame terrorism, and Canada, after fatal Rainbow Bridge border explosion

There's recent book written by Michael Wolff who spent 10 years with all the Murdochs. Washington Post has a great recap. I've only heard him interviewed. Haven't read the book yet.
Michael Wolff’s ‘The Fall’ is a dishy look at the decline of Fox News

The guy who said that was on the news and only saw the car for a few seconds because it was flying. He also said it could be a Chrysler 300 luxury car.

PP said "We've just heard media reports of a terrorist attack" Explain to me how you can jump to the conclusion that PP personally called the incident a terrorist attack.

Just where did he get that fiction? This fiction was parroted in our Parliament by the leader of the Conservative Party, which is far more concerning to me as a Canadian.
And he tried to cover it up with another lie
.Pierre Poilievre went on a rant at his press conference where he claims that a "CTV News Tweet"was the source of his terrorist reports. But, he made those statements in parliament BEFORE the CTV report was posted on their site or the tweet was made! Should we go around spreading baseless rumours about him and base it on dubious media reports? That may be fine for you and me, but not for someone of his stature.
I guess you just don't mind be lied to by the guy you're voting for.

Buffalo News media columnist Alan Pergament tears a strip off of two WBEN hosts for what he calls their outrageous coverage of this big news story, with afternoon yakker Tom Bauerle openly declaring it terrorism early on.

WBEN's Bauerle and Bellavia drive irresponsible Rainbow Bridge coverage

The following opinion piece should enlighten us all concerning the mindset of Mr. Bauerle...

I remember when he was a jock on WGR during its music days. He was OK, nothing special, but there was never any sign of what he would become. Given some of the things in his background, including his claim that he was being followed by federal agents, I have to wonder about his mental stability.

Before we go feeling too sorry for deluded right-wing conspiracy theorists, hosting talk-radio shows, think of the many thousands of easily-influenced listeners who fall for the crap spewing out of the mouths of the late Rush Limbaugh, et al; and yes, that crap affects relationships and institutions and helps lead to the divided societies we now witness.
Who says AM radio has no power? Sadly, it used to spread joy. Now, all too often, it spreads lies, exaggerations and outright hate.
Yes, the hosts are guilty of outrageous behaviour in search of ratings, but what about the willing listeners who happily regurgitate the BS they hear spewing out of host mouths? Where is listener shame and contrition for spreading the mountains of disinformation?

There's a very strong underlying distrust in authority and management figures. And, let's face it - look at the state of the world locally, nationally and internationally. Major existential-level problems. Serious and very costly problems. All kind of mediocre and even bullshit 'solutions', lack of political will, elephants in the room galore. Executives taking home bonuses when banks fail and then get massive taxpayer-funded bailouts. Politicians voting themselves raises. Political-class families (Bush, Trudeau, Clinton) and networks of elites. Hypocrites during covid who broke their own lockdown rules. Massive income inequality. I could go on, and could get into more of the complexities (such as shifting parameters of right and left, ...).
And radio, at least, responds with shock jocks and partisan troubadors.

When news broke out, WGR broke in. They were the very best news coverage and never would have tolerated spewing garbage false information of any sort.
Sadly, WBEN now is this "one voice, one choice" news/talk dictator for Buffalo.
It's not only the only choice for Buffalo News/talk, it's also the source now for no credibility.
Such a shame.

These guys are nuts. But it works both ways. If you listen to the BBC, the events of October 7th didn't happen and Hamas should be given the Nobel Peace Prize for releasing some hostages.

Sometimes my brain has reflexes after I open my mouth, though these occurred within about a minute of my post. It would appear we're on the same page. It does bother me that so many stations air this destructive shit (sorry, but that's an apt descriptor).
