How You Will Be Able To Sample The Frasier Reboot For Free

I was beginning to think this thing would never surface. But now it has. Or at least it will. The long-awaited reboot of "Frasier" will finally start streaming on Oct. 12th. That's the word from star Kelsey Grammer, who has returned to play the character that won him multiple Emmys.

Not sure if the show will be picked up by a streamer here, because the rights belong to Paramount+, which Canadians can legally subscribe to. But that doesn't mean you won't get to sample it. The network has confirmed that the first two episodes of the reboot will also be shown back-to-back on free-to-air CBS on Tuesday, October 17th, so anyone with basic cable or a TV antenna will be able to see it here.

I suspect this'll go over as well as 'The New Gidget' did in the 80s.

I will watch the two free episodes, but I am expecting to be disappointed.

Some more details have surfaced on how we can view the first two episodes free. They will air on Pluto TV in the U.S. and Canada on Oct 12. CBS will telecast the two episodes Tuesday Oct 17 at 9:15 pm ET/PT. After that, new episodes will be available on Paramount+ every Thursday. [per the Today Show website]

CHCH will have it. Now they really only mentioned the premiere on the news last week, but I assume it'll be the whole season.

Oh, it looks like the video's gone private. It was on YouTube Paramount+ Canada channel.

Re: How You Will Be Able To Sample The Frasier Reboot For Free

Don't know how many here watched the reboot preview on CBS/CHCH, but I thought it was pretty good for a second generation of an old show. Not sure I'd want to subscribe to Paramount+ just to see all of them, but I would definitely watch it again.

My only complaint is the continuity in the character of Frasier's son. In the original, he was "Frederick," the typical nerdy little fuss budget that, like his parents, was interested in the arts and more snobbish pursuits. It's hard to imagine that kid grew up into the sports-loving, physical fitness crazy Freddy we saw on the reboot.

Re: How You Will Be Able To Sample The Frasier Reboot For Free

I enjoyed the two episodes with the second the better one.  Can't really see the series not being renewed for a second season.  Maybe they will expand a season to more than 10 installments.

Agree with the assessment of grown up Freddie.  He has no resemblance physically or personality with the Freddie we knew in the older series.  However, there was another boy who played Frasier and Lilith's son just once.   This child actor introduced the character and was more like a regular kid.  Much more rambunctious, louder, running around.  But, only appeared once in the show.  If they had stayed with the original, then the character for grown up Freddie in the new series would be more logical.

You should actually try watching something before judging it.
It's pretty good. I like the humour in it.

Re: How You Will Be Able To Sample The Frasier Reboot For Free

The original Freddie was a child actor named Luke Taristano and he appeared once in 1995 in Frasier.  The next year Trevor Einhorn appeared as the son and was in a total of 8 episodes over the rest of the series.

Here is a photo of all of the Freddie's and some background on the new show and the Freddie character from SCREENRANT...

Well the ratings are in for the new Frasier on CBS last night and they are just okay so far.  Numbers will increase when updated.  Prime time last night in the US from TV Ratings Guide...

If enough of those viewers become Paramount+ subscribers, then mission accomplished.

I liked it but my significant other won't watch because she liked the supporting cast more than she liked Frasier himself.

I watched the two free CBS episodes. Got a few chuckles. Not nearly as good as the original.

Watched episode#1 on the Roku Channel.  Thought it was pretty decent for a pilot.  Quite liked the lady roommate; didn't connect with Harvard lady.

Re: How You Will Be Able To Sample The Frasier Reboot For Free

As a big fan of the original show, I found this reboot of Frasier to be quite dismal. It lacked the magic, the charm of the original. Frasier has definitely left the building.

Re: How You Will Be Able To Sample The Frasier Reboot For Free

A very long but very insightful piece on the new Frasier suggests that it really should be airing on CBS and not exclusively on Paramount+. The author, a veteran TV journalist, argues that it would allow more episodes to be produced, the writers to develop the secondary characters more, create a bigger library for lucrative syndication someday and attract a larger audience than the streamer will ever see.

It's not likely to happen, but as skeptical as I was when I started reading this story, he actually won me over by the end - especially since I liked what I saw and I have no intention of forking over money to P+ just to see this!

The TV Ratings Guide has updated their numbers for Frasier.  In their analysis of the ratings, they say that the two shows bombed on CBS...http://www.thetvratingsguide.com/2023/10/tuesday-tv-ratings-101723-frasier.html
