WEBR Niagara Falls Now On FM - But You Won't Hear It In Toronto

A few weeks ago, the guy who owns WEBR (the former WJJL Niagara Falls) took over WLVL, a Lockport, N.Y. station in the Buffalo area. Things moved fast from there - the new owner took WLVL off of its 105.3 FM repeater, and put WEBR's signal there. According to the online Radio Discussions group, that means 'EBR is technically on a transmitter that's outside of the market where it's actually licenced to broadcast.

In any event, unless you tune in online, it's unlikely you'll ever hear either of them here. The power of the FM stick is just 250 watts and it has to protect a station on that frequency in Kitchener. Neither station propagates well into Toronto, with the 1440 and 1340 signals both very weak even on AM.

But in case you come across Big Band music at 105.3 on a good skip day, you'll now have some idea of what it might be.

Nice catch(es). Almost as rare as getting the Channel 67 signal on TV these days.

Must be my location because this station comes in quite regularly for me and often with a fairly clear stereo signal. Location is the northwest part of Pickering. Previous format was never my cup of tea but I never realized it was a low power translator. I tried the station today and moving the antenna around did result in a weak signal. The strong signal on the frequency today was Virgin Radio out of Kitchner. Briefly went around the dial and no signs of a tropo except that I received the HD3 of 98.5 from Buffalo. Heard at the end of the clip below:
WEBR 105.3 Feb 12/23

Not sure where you are but I've never been able to get a sniff of a signal of WLVL/WEBR-FM. It's simply too weak and there's too much interference in any event. I'm glad to hear someone is able to receive it here, though. Buffalo seems to have a lot more room for repeaters than we do in the GTA, although even they're running out of room.

Pickering - western part near Finch.

Northern North York along Steeles Ave. Way too much interference here to get much of anything on a non-tropo day.

I have noticed when I travel around Pickering/Ajax/Whitby the majority of the Buffalo FM's have pretty reliable signals.
