Re: Lisa LaFlamme out at CTV

Rosie DiManno's column also notes it's been picked up all over the U.S. and in countries as far away as Italy and the U.K. But she makes another point about how badly Bell has botched this thing and how they're hoping it will just go away eventually.

"CTV has scrubbed LaFlamme’s bio and byline — including mention of those Canadian Screen Awards — from its website. They’re not covering one of the hugest news stories in the country as a news story. The Social, a network talk program aimed at women, isn’t permitted to discuss it, I’m told. And Bell radio stations have been banned from touching the subject."

Although, to be fair, it HAS come up a few times on NT1010. But I think the message is that while other stations will be running with it for a while (Roy Green did an entire hour on it on his B.C.-Ontario show Saturday) it likely won't be on the iHeart Talk Radio menu again anytime soon.

Even if it does slow down a bit in the coming week or two, it's bound to flare right back up again the day Omar Sachedina assumes his role on the desk. That's scheduled for Sept. 5th.

Lisa LaFlamme’s bio may be scrubbed from their site but no way Bell Media and CTV News can walk back this disaster

Re: Lisa LaFlamme out at CTV

If the real reason here was cost-savings - Bell/CTV concluding that the age of star anchors was over and they could replace LaFlamme with someone else for half the price with, hopefully, a minimal impact on ratings - then CTV would have waited another two years until near the end of her contract and either told her they weren't renewing or tried to negotiate a soft landing of some sort. As it is they've either agreed to pay out the remaining two years of her contract (or will almost certainly have to after the courts get involved) as well as give Omar a bump in his salary - so no actual savings- if anything it's costing them more.

What I'm curious about is whether CTV was able to get LaFlamme to agree to some sort of non-compete agreement for the next two years and, if so, whether CTV had to pay anything above the remaining two years salary she was owed to get it.

Rosie DiManno is one of the best; right up there with Lord Black of Crossharbour

They're both awful (especially Conrad) but even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Lisa LaFlamme chose not to say goodbye on CTV News, Bell Media executive tells staff

I suspect there's more to this e.g. she'd have to announce she was "retiring" or otherwise leaving voluntarily in exchange for a dignified send off. Even if that's  not the case, I can't blame her for declining an opportunity to help CTV save face.

Re: Lisa LaFlamme out at CTV

A bit of a puff piece about Omar Sachedina, but I worked with him for a time, and I can tell you he really is a good guy. He's gotten mixed up in the middle of this and it's probably turned what should be a lifelong dream for him into an ongoing nightmare.

A real shame, but his self-congratulatory Tweet, possibly at Bell's insistence, has P.O.-d a lot of people even before his official on-air debut Sept. 5th.

The hug, the humanity, and Omar Sachedina: Who is CTV’s new chief news anchor?

Question....is Marilyn Denis perhaps worried now or is it cause she has her own show thats saving her, if the issue was age?

I have a feeling Marilyn will be ok because getting rid of her at this point would cause upset on not just CTV, but CHUM.   She doesn't hold the same power Lisa did and Marilyn isn't exactly the type to rock the boat with management.    My prediction she will be one of the few allowed to retire when the time comes, especially now with all this drama over Lisa.    I can't see Bell playing this high profile game for a while until things cool down.    It would be wise on their part.

As do I.

In October, the time it finally starts to feel like fall, I can see Bell Media coming up with some sort of ad campaign, featuring Marilyn and other CTV personalities of different ages and ethnicities in a carefully curated group photo, and they'd run it on numerous billboards as well as countrywide print and television ads to celebrate the start of the fall season of programming.

Perhaps with a magazine article or a newspaper spread in the Saturday entertainment section with just Marilyn, in time for Thanksgiving.

The group photo tagline will be tricky ...

"CTV, from our family to yours." might work.

Whatever Bell does to repair the viewers trust, if it benefits the community it may actually create positive buzz, it needs to be meaningful and far reaching, from coast to coast to coast, for example, donations to women's shelters, and the Shoebox Project for women, along with funding for the Haven organization for older homeless men. Avoiding the mental health angle would be smart, and sports.

It'll take Bell months to figure out this out.

In wake of LaFlamme's exit, brands should be wary when jumping on hot topics

Re: Lisa LaFlamme out at CTV

What effect will this controversy have on newcomer Omar Sachedina's debut on Labour Day night? It might mean his evening of triumph for getting one of the plum spots in broadcasting will be bittersweet.

Furor over dismissal of Lisa LaFlamme will mean an uphill battle for Omar Sachedina, CTV’s incoming news anchor

also, Bell is still trending on Twitter at over 3k

short term it'll take a major godawful news story to push this topic to the backburner of public attention, not that anyone would want one to occur

who's going to be next in line to get canned from their media gig, any guesses?

I’m not going to defend Bell at all, but in all fairness, the article Dean Blundell is referring to is a Canadian Press article which was published by multiple outlets. Of course, I’m sure CP24 was more than happy to publish it.

In any event, I’m going to make a point of eating at Wendy’s this weekend.

Dean isn't good with details is he?  His war with Toronto Mike over something Toronto Mike never said, is one example and now attributing a Canadian Press article to CTV is another example. I feel like he's the guy who has to hit pause on a movie so someone can explain what's happening.
