I don’t think it happens any more, with the decline of CDs and vinyl still somewhat a specialty item. But back in the heyday of Top 40 and album rock radio, many local Toronto stations would put out their own record compilations highlighting some of the more popular songs on their playlists.
 
Q107 was famous for its Homegrown LPs, spotlighting local talent. But for some, it was strictly a promotional or for-profit effort.
 
I recently found a CD from 1995 although I have no idea where it came from. I know I didn’t buy it and someone was probably nice enough to give it to me. It’s from CHUM during its oldies days, and contains some of the biggest hits of the 60s and 70s. I have no idea how they chose the songs that were included, unless they were simply the easiest to licence. And yes, it included "Seasons In The Sun." 






It also contained some fun liner notes that you could only see if you took out the cover and read the insert. According to the credits, they were written by Larry Maginnis and Mike Occomore.



 
I also found "CFTR’s 60’s Album," a double LP, which dates from 1981. Notice at the very bottom of the back cover that Bill Gable is listed as a “co-ordinator,” whatever that means.  




CFTR apparently had a special 60s hour that aired on Sunday nights. I have no memory of it, but they put out a double disc to promote it. I have no idea how I ended up with a copy.
