I've never been a fan of his, but there's no doubt he made a big impression on the radio industry. Now Rush Limbaugh is warning his listeners to prepare for the day when he not only won't be on the air, he may not even be of this world.
Rush Limbaugh says cancer treatment is 'kicking his a**', may give up radio show as even walking tires him

Hannity? Weiner? Love Sponge? That foppish Limey dandy who fills in for him? It's spine-tingling.

So the American Left tends to celebrate people's upcoming painful treatments and ultimate death?
I wonder if the Canadian Left is equally ghoulish? ⚰️🧟♂️

Or baiting by the Right?
(For the record here, I'd rather see people of any persuasion knocked out - or celebrated - on political grounds, not because of illness).

I disagree. The left, as a whole, do, in favour ad-hominem attacks. Those against the provincial government tend to attack Doug Ford and before him Mike Harris rather than the Conservatives. It was exactly the same when the Conservatives were in power federally where "The Evil Harper" got the brunt of the attacks.
Did the Right attack the last Liberal Premiere directly?
Look at what happened to Michael Moore once his latest doc was released. The man started receiving death threats.
I realize it's just one person's experience but I've found left-leaning people generally to be among the most intolerlant.
As for Limbaugh, I don't see a lot of things his way but I wish what he's going through on no one.

We're starting to turn into a political board, which isn't the point of SOWNY! Still, I suppose it's inevitable given how polarizing politics is these days. That said, I'll weigh in with this - as someone who has survived cancer (at least so far!) I can tell you there are few scarier words in any language than that one.
And while I've always found Limbaugh's "I'm the world's greatest broadcaster" style off-putting, there's no one on earth I'd wish that illness on. I don't listen to him and never will, but that doesn't mean I don't want him to recover. This is something no human being should have to face. But sadly, too many of us do.

I'll be glad when Rush no longer spreads his dangerous & toxic views across the airwaves but I take no pleasure in his being sick.

Statements like that are the reason I said farewell to PSR as I do now to SOWNY.
I can get political stuff anywhere.
It was kinda fun while it lasted.

And this is exactly why I hate when this board gets into politics. There are plenty of places on the web to discuss that subject, and unless it pertains to the politics of broadcasting or radio, it just tends to alienate people and we end up losing valued members who usually have something interesting to add here.
I've tried hard to get rid of the trolls - longtimers here know who they were. But at the same time, I try to welcome all points of view. I just hope in future those points will be more about what's being aired on the left or right side of the old analog-style radio dial - and not of the political spectrum.

WOW! I really poked the hornet's nest with my comment above. Peter The K expressed my view much better than I did. I am a conservative [law & order/fiscal policy] person. I have always believed that a bad conservative politician is better than any liberal politician. That is just the way I am wired. As bad as Trump has been, I would still take him over Hillary anytime. On the flipside there are some who are just the opposite, always vote for a liberal thinking candidate. Under no circumstances would they ever consider a conservative. The 416 is a perfect example. Almost always a sea of red in Federal elections. I have said my piece. I will now step down from the soap box, get back into my lazyboy and watch tv.

The only one here with that view is you. I assume you speak for all who aren't ditto heads? It's obvious that's how you feel about Rush yourself because it was the first thing that came to your mind.

can we PLEASE move on from political discussions and who should get banned for what? this isn't the first thread to be noticed, and absolutely not why i come here. btw, ford's title is "premier" without the extra "e". so let's all find more relevant topics to this board.
I don't care who's left or right politically here. but how many still have a box with razor blades, splicing tape,, and a grease pencil ferreted away?

Sort of interesting this post has had so many comments and views. I bet 98% of the members here have never listened to one full Rush Limbaugh program, and many have only seen clips of his show on Youtube or on the news.
That is one area of US radio that holds little interest to me. US talk radio tends to be too polarized for my taste and too many shows are over the top only for the sake of being outrageous. Yes there are some good informative shows, but it is the clowns that seem to get the ratings and publicity.
I get really bored with biased, shouting hosts who have usually nothing to say, always angry and blame "the other." Shows that have a lot of "regular callers or characters" that are only trying to make a name for themselves by predictably irrational comments on air. Basically to me most of these high rated shows are more or less staged, low grade entertainment, and phony as hell.
It amazes me that programs like this are as popular as they are, I am just glad that so far this type of empty calorie fake talk radio hasn't crossed the border, and attempts in the past like Dr. Laura failed miserably. Let's hope it stays that way.
And splunge, not only do I have the kit, but also lots of 3M tape to edit. ..grease pencil and blades ready.

I would hardly call Dr. Laura's show a "failure". She is worth well north of 50 million and was on-air in Canada (CKLW for one) for many years. She is still available on Sirius/XM Canada daily.
Just because she wasn't heard in Toronto, doesn't a failure make.

Dr. Laura has been huge for decades, just not in Canada. CKLW ran the show as you say but they had the bought rights for Detroit and that's why it was on the station, for listeners in Michigan. Her show bombed on CHUM and various other stations across Canada about 15-20 years ago; Dr. Laura just didn't catch on here.
Sirius XM Canada carries over 90% US programming and that's why she is on the service.

I listen to Rush often. He is very good at what he does. This is by no means an invitation for a response itemizing others hatred for the man. I know, we know how you feel. Save it.
His show is different than most nationally-syndicated shows, in that he does very few guests. It is mostly his monologues, and callers. It takes a particular skill to do that, which he possesses. He is very good with callers at teasing out the inner question in their questions. People often call with a good thought, but have trouble expressing it, and he often decants their rambling into a an articulate and interesting question, and then answers it. His insight is powerful.
His critics, who do not listen of course, are not aware of his skills. They too are good at painting him with the typical traits they have associated with the deplorables, but it is mostly manufactured outrage, the man is none of those things.
Politics aside, the radio industry - employer of a great number of the people on this board - owes Rush a huge debt of gratitude. More than anyone else, he has kept AM radio alive long past when many thought it would have pegged out. Think about that before the next time you cash your cheque.

He tried managing an audience that was lightly moderated. It was a staggering failure. And it's been said he requires a paid service to fabricate/provide acceptable call-ins to his show, which is fortunate because his polemics collapse with the slightest critical scrutiny.
I don't care if he privately marches in socialist reform rallies, sniffs flowers, pets kitties and kisses waterhead infants. He is inseparable from the politics he espouses as a steward of the public discourse, and that is his legacy.
So if you pay this fealty to him, and the value he brought to shareholders, good day. He spent his time making weak minds weaker, and that's a cost civilisation will be bearing for decades to come.

His staggering failure earns him something like $30 million a year. I would hope for your sake that your faliures are half as staggering.

On verra. I, and millions of others, think he is a net benefactor. Time will tell. Most likely you and I will not be around to know. History is a loooooooooong process.
But here you are, making this thread political, despite some desperate pleas from the denizens of the Big Yellow Board to stick to the topic. I posted an observation about Rush's skills and effect as a radio man, let's discuss that. Or let's let the thread die.

"More than anyone else, he kept AM radio alive past when many thought it would have pegged out." That's true in the US but not here.
Currently no stations in Canada carry Rush Limbaugh's radio program and I don't believe any or very few actually ever have. So his influence on Canadian radio, AM or otherwise is zero.
That shouldn't be surprising since Limbaugh's show is geared for an American audience and deals primarily with US politics, so right away it would have limited appeal here. Many Canadians find US politics interesting, but likely not enough to listen regularly.
He did have a TV show maybe 25 years ago that then CFTO TV in Toronto carried late night on Friday or Saturday for about six months and that was about his only real exposure here.
Don't dispute his popularity at all, and absolutely he has made talk radio, especially conservative talk radio a big thing in the US. But as I mentioned in my original post, shows like Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura, Howard Stern and other imported talk shows, so far have had very spotty popularity north of the border.
