"Listen Live" Site Reveals Show Clock For Bell Talk Radio Station

Ever been to one of those sites that shows you what songs have been played on the radio station you were listening to online? They work great for music formats, but what do you see on a talk outlet? Usually, you're not even offered the option.

I'm not sure why, but a radio "listen live" site called Online Radio Box has this bizarre listing when you look up the "CFRA playlist." It's essentially the station's clock for the morning show. Not sure I've ever seen this presented on one of these sites before. But it does illustrate how busy an AM drive program can be.

I love the spontaneity of it!

If you think that's complicated, check out this. It's the old broadcast clock for the WNBC-AM 1980's overnight show called "The Time Machine," a classic that essentially recreated the old WABC format from the 60's. It was high energy, yes, but squinting at this thing makes me wonder how any of the jocks and their ops survived the shift.

This was sent to me by Bob Pondillo, aka The Real Bob James, who worked there and did the show on weekends. He once told me he used to lose a pound or two a shift trying to keep the thing on track. Looking at the clock, you can see why. (Those without strong bladder control need not apply!)

I've noticed a few interesting things on Zoomer's website under their "What was that song?" feature from time to time, including this from the other day:

Not sure what the "Don't delete" means. Maybe somebody's afraid that a station ID might get deleted by accident?

That looks similar to what I was taught in broadcasting college at Loyalist in Belleville back in the mid 70's. Every where I worked during my broadcasting career , I made my own clock to follow while on air.

All hour clocks looked busy in radio, but it didn't take long for jocks or operators to master them. Soon you didn't even use them since the format was usually similar every hour during a shift.

That time clock looks a lot like most top 40 stations in the 60's-70's. 14-15  three minute songs = 42-45 minutes. five minutes of news. That leaves 10-13 minutes for commercials.

These are fun; the metadata in the stream. Back in 2023 I observed the same on talk radio with Online Radio Box:
