CJCL 590 Transmitter site for sale. Just $4.7M!

Drove by this yesterday in Beamsville. (not a pun - it's a long-established community)

Thoughts? (I also drove by the CFTR site in Grimsby, which would seem like an easier - and more lucrative - sell since that area's being developed. Nothing. Yet.)

Reminds me of this earlier post

This is interesting, My thoughts are Rogers will keep the station on the air until the new owners want the towers gone, then tell the CRTC they had no other option but to shut down the station.

I assume that if Sportsnet 590 is sustaining losses, the $4.7M looks good.   But there's another scenario perhaps skywave has an opinion.  Could the 680 transmitter site, be diplexed for 590?  That might leave some cash in Rogers' shareholders' pockets after engineering expenses.

Here's some ideas for rogers.
1: Keep sportsnet 590 on the air.
2: if they won't do that, have sportsnet 590 be an hd radio only format/online only format.
3: Swich kiss 92.5 to an all-sports format if the crtc will let them, move kiss's format to an hd subchannel, and CHFI will keep its format.
4: If they shut 590 down, swich 680 to a news/talk/sports format.

What will happen to the jays games?
I love listening on the radio.
Better commentary.

It's possible Rogers could sell the property, collect the cash and then lease it back for as long as they need to use it for 590, if they weren't going to the bother of taking the diplex route.
I wonder whether the soil is suitable for tender fruit crops? Could it be set up so that crops could be grown while still operating as a transmission site?
The first thing that came to mind for me is that I would imagine a property like that one is highly in demand already for a future greenhouse operation, particularly in light of the trade and tariffs war.

The lot is almost 160 acres. How much land do you really need for AM radio. Rogers could keep the amount of land they need and sell the rest.

It's not the CJCL 590 site.  CJCL has nine towers. It's AM 640 (Corus), and actually old news.

That de-escalated quickly.

Actually the 640 site's the one with nine towers. It's also a few k southwest on the escarpment near Smithville.

There are 120 ground radials buried about six inches deep around each tower. There radials will be about 390 feet long generally 1/4 of the wavelength of the station's frequency. This precludes tilling and crop growing. You might be able to use it a pasture.

Sorry, but you're mistaken. The photograph clearly shows eight towers for CFIQ 640, and the exact antenna data from the FCC AM lookup is below:

640 is eight towers (4 x 2) below the escarpment and just south of the QEW in Beamsville.

590 is nine towere (3 x 3) up on the escarpment.
