It's been months since Alex Pierson was last heard on AM640 and we now know she's not coming back - although the reasons why still aren't exactly clear. (Despite this, her show listing remains on the station's website.)
The place has been limping along with not-so-great replacement programming in the 12-3PM timeslot ever since. Shaye Ganam is a fine broadcaster, but his show is so heavily about Alberta issues and politics, that it's almost irrelevant in both Toronto and London.
The reroll of "The Last Show With David Cooper" was bad enough the first time, without being endlessly rerun the next day. And if they really are planning to replace Pierson with CFNY's Drex, as some here have suggested, they should just get on with it already. (Although why he'd want to leave a much higher rated gig for a show on a station at the bottom of the heap is beyond me.)
I know Corus isn't exactly flying high financially right now, but they really do need to fill this slot with something better than is there now or risk losing even more listeners. The question is who - and when?

Steal Mark Towhey from his rare fill-in duties on 1010. He'd probably come with a relatively low price tag, and is vastly superior to 'Drex', or any of the out of town subs that make the current show practically unlistenable for a GTA audience.

I heard one if those "Sitting in for Alex Pierson ..." banners on Thursday in 2pm hour. I wasn't paying attention so I don't know who it was (and have no interest). I just thought at the time it was simply run in error.

Or just have him do both

640 is near the bottom of the recent spring ratings book for a reason. Surprised people are even talking about this station.
Any idea how much this station generates in revenue ?

They still have to fill the airtime, no matter how poor the ratings.

Very true

I still believe that some of 640's listening audience is outside of the GTA. They have a far reach signal. I get it fairly clear here in Sudbury .

Is that day and night? Any other Toronto AM's make it into Sudbury. I would imagine 740 and 860 would be a safe bet. What about 550? WGR has a monster daytime signal.

And they used to advertise that very advantage in an ad from 1952.

Maybe hire someone who isn't an ideologue? Certainly there can be more to talk radio than being lectured to by different varieties of right-wing dogmatists all day. Currently, 640 and 1010 seem to have the political spectrum covered from A to C.

Again, at 2:34pm today I heard "In for Alex Pierson from 102.1 The Edge, here's Drex".

Yes, I heard it, too. Something contractual perhaps? It seems almost certain she's not coming back.

Her show is still on the website, as well as Oakleys
Under Advertising kit. Can advertisers still buy time in their shows?

They should change "Alex is away" to "Alex is a Myth"

I do not get 590 or 1010 up here in my car, just 640. The closest AM station is out of North Bay, signal is about as strong as 640.
