Sick Of The Drake Media Hype Yet?

I'm not a fan so maybe that's the issue, but all the hype and stunts surrounding the Drake triple album release is starting to get seriously tedious. It's been the lead of every newscast all morning and the hype mobile (not to mention a ton of free publicity) has been turned up to 11. (That's for Spinal Tap fans.)

I hope it dies down soon. He accomplished what he set out to do, attracting a blitz of overly-amped up media. I appreciate what the guy does to promote Toronto (not to mention himself) but it's only been a few hours and I'm already done.

Not at all - even if you don't like him, you have to respect what he pulled off last night and no one is a bigger cheerleader for our city.  We need more people like Drake if we want Canadian content to survive and thrive

Re: Sick Of The Drake Media Hype Yet?

Sorry RA, off base on this.  Frankly I am surprised that Drake has hung around Toronto so long.  He is appreciated and respected more in many other places than his home town.  Why would you care what he does for promoting a new album?  He has given Toronto and Canada a ton of good publicity over the years and continues to.  Worldwide everyone knows about the t-dot and he has never been shy to talk about where he is from.

So to carp about a promotion he does, or the fact it is the lead story on newscasts is kind of small minded and bush league on your end.  The news organizations decided this was the lead story, not Drake.  And whether you agree or not, they were correct.

I'm not saying it didn't work or that he's not a good ambassador for Toronto. I acknowledged that in my post. I'm just sick of hearing about him already. Yes, his stunts worked, although it can be argued that the ice sculpture that had to be resolved by emergency crews working overtime went a bit too far. But a little goes a long way. This is as far from "a little" as you can get.

Still, it's a lot better than what's about to hit us like a PR tsunami. I may not turn on my radio next month just to try to avoid all the endless hype about The World Cup. You won't be able to escape it. And if you don't care about soccer (and more importantly, have no respect for the hopelessly corrupt FIFA) it's going to be hard to take.

Yikes.  Drizzy hype overload, followed by World Cup hype overload.  All we need now is a Taylor Swift Toronto concert announcement to score the hype barf-bag trifecta.

Drake even made the CBS Newscast that I heard on a SiriusXM channel today.

In answer to the original question, YES.

After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.

Re: Sick Of The Drake Media Hype Yet?

Drake sure did generate a ton of media with his recent publicity stunts but that news cycle died pretty quickly as I’m not reading nor hearing about it today so far. I wonder why he released three albums as opposed to spreading them out and potentially not splitting his sales. Still, the kids love him, I think. I heard a track yesterday and it sounded very old school, must be intentional.

8:55am - I stand corrected, CP24 just did a piece on Drake, and the beat goes on…….

I don't like the man or his "music" But then I am not part of his target audience.
