Stephen Colbert's Monday Show Is Must See TV

I’m not sure if this has ever happened before - almost every single major late night talk show host will converge at the Ed Sullivan Theatre for one of the final weeks of the Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

His last program – which promises to get blockbuster ratings – comes on May 21st, a Thursday. But Monday features appearances by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, John Oliver and – in a rare appearance – the previous occupant of the time slot, David Letterman.

That line-up is bound to get a lot of eyeballs, as well. It’s rare for hosts from another network to appear on the competition. It’s happened before to a lesser extent, when Kimmel was going through his suspension from ABC – but I can’t recall so many hosts and ex-hosts all gathering on one stage at the same time.

It’s definitely DVR-worthy if you want to set for it early.

I realize we are talking different eras, but I wonder ratings/viewership wise how Colbert's last show will compare to Carson's.

Still no word on what Global will do after the show ends. Will they simulcast the "Comics Unleashed" show from CBS? It's not technically a network show, so they may not have the rights.

Reading the actual story, Letterman will appear on Thursday the 14th. The others will indeed be on Monday's episode.

Isn't "Comics Unleashed" supposed to be paid programming? Unless Global were to get a chunk of that, I imagine they'd go with something else.

There's no doubt they'll probably switch over to either Flavour network or their Home TV for that hour to infomercialize other channels they own and remind people that if they like the show they're watching they can see more if they order those channels...

Just a reminder that this rare gathering of other talk show hosts happens tonight at 11:35 PM, although there will certainly be copious clips on the web by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in a show of class, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel has announced his show will go dark on the night of Colbert's final episode on May 21st. A repeat episode will be aired so viewers can tune in for the host's last hurrah.

Did anyone else catch the Wayne & Shuster reference during Letterman's spot on the Late Show last night?
