OK, let me get it out of the way first - I find that watching soccer is a lot like watching paint dry. Your mileage may vary. I have to admit I felt the same way about the Olympics, and could not wait for that event to be over, to escape the endless (mostly still pictures only) recaps on the nightly news, while I ignored NBC for three long weeks.
I expected the Winter Games to get a lot of coverage and they legitimately did. But what really irritated me most were the endless promos the network ran as long as two months before they actually started. Sixty days of promos, banner ads over shows I was watching, and endless reminders to watch really began to annoy me.
And now I'm seeing the same thing happening on CTV. The ads for FIFA on TSN have already started and the matches being hosted in Canada are being endlessly pushed on break after break. For God's sake, it's almost four months away! I imagine the hype as we reach May will reach an unbearable crescendo to remind you to tune in, but at least that's understandable.
Months of promos for something so far away are going to be driving me crazy. (And as frequently noted here, it's not a long drive!)
As they say in Italian, Basta! Enough! What's next? Advertising Christmas specials for next December? As noted in the Bible, "To everything, there is a season." The FIFA soccer season is not yet here. And believe me, no one will be able to avoid it when it is. Give us a few months of peace before the hype machine gets fired up.
I'm afraid I won't be able to watch TV at all come this June.

I couldn't agree more. Yes I would like to see Canada do well. We are taking baby steps. In 1986 we couldn't even score one goal. Still a World Cup record. The next tournament we were finally able to score. Maybe this year a draw or even one victory. Advancing to the next round is wishful thinking. Will I watch any of Canada's games? Doubtful. Personally, I think the entire tournament will be a complete shit show. FIFA has their fingers in every possible aspect of the event. From legitimate ticket to secondary market ticket sales. From stadium parking to stadium name changes for the event. No stadium can have a name that isn't an approved FIFA sponsor. So BMO Field becomes Toronto Stadium. Met Life=NY/NJ, Gilette=Boston, etc. Then you will have all the local highway and road closures to let the FIFA officials get to their destinations. Hard to decide which organization is more corrupt FIFA or the IOC. I have no use for either of them.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. As the headline might read, "FIFA Foes Fume."

Maybe the early promos are reminding people to get a second job so they can afford tickets to the games.

The Canadian Crokinole Championships (CCC) are coming up in Tavistock (ON). Enthusiasts are making room reservations from as far away as Plattsville and Clappison's Corners to experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Motel rooms are filling quickly and T-shirts are going fast.

As long as they don't advertise it four months ahead of time. I'm fine with it!

I assume that if the CCC are being held in Tavistock that there will be play-by-play coverage on nearby Stratford's CJCS-FM.
As an aside, I notice that CJCS-1240 is still listed on the Toronto Blue Jays website as being on the Blue Jays Radio Network. Even though the 1240 stopped coming down for breakfast in 2017.

Bill Shakespeare will be calling the play-by-play for CJCS

Well, that makes sense. It's taking place in a little Hamlet...
