I watched the Super Bowl with my son last night and to be honest, I started to doze off during the second half. The game was just plain dull even though the actual broadcast was top notch, as always. I did enjoy Bad Bunny, although I think I would have appreciated subtitles, still, he was entertaining, way better than Kid Rock from what I’ve heard. All in all, it would have been a better broadcast with the Bills playing!

I didn't have a lot of interest in the Super Bowl so my viewing was more checking in every so often to see what the score was. Seems like not much happened until the last quarter.
Did watch some of the new commercials that played on CTV. And also looked in at the half time show with Bad Bunny. I didn't mind him or the music, but thought the set up was strange.
The stage area was small and narrow and the wall of grass surrounding the set would impede the people seeing much in the lower levels. The people that paid $30,000 or whatever for a seat in the first few rows from the sides would be looking at grass. These fans in expensive seats could only watch the stadium screens, even though Bunny was just feet away. Best to be sitting up about 20 or 30 rows or higher to get a better view.
What I saw NBC did a great job, but the consensus seems to be that the game itself was pretty boring. Didn't watch much of Craves new series Borderline. Nice photography of cottage country but opted to watch the news and Olympics instead.

I wonder what the numbers are for Canada.
No, not the ratings, the people who didn't go in to work on Monday.
According to a firm that tracks such things, the figures in the U.S. prove there are likely a lot of no-shows on the first day back to the office on this side of the border, too.

The best part of the Super Bowl, to me, is that the season is finally over and it hopefully ends the delay of primetime programming on CBS every damn Sunday. Has a football game ever, ever, ever ended on time? My DVR will be very happy to not have shows start at 9:47 PM.

Can't imagine many in Canada missing work on Monday because of the Super Bowl. Maybe if Buffalo got to the playoffs and won you would have some in Southern Ontario, but beyond that not many.

You're forgetting CBS carries Golf - which sometimes doesn't end on time either.

Yes, I know. But it usually doesn't run quite as far over as football. I'll say this for the NFL - at least it has a clock that eventually runs out. Golf doesn't and can go on until it gets dark. So yes, it can be an irritant, too. But somehow it's not as bad as the pigskin people.
Maybe because it's mostly in the summer, a lot of shows are in reruns - and I'm in a better mood because winter is my lifelong sworn enemy!

Didn't NBC just steal golf from CBS? Wait...no, I think it's Baseball I'm thinking of...and possibly one other sport?

They've re-acquired Major League Baseball to air Sunday nights, after ESPN bowed out of the bidding. And they recently added the NBA. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

One minor observation was the TSN bug in the upper left corner initially said “Bell” for a few seconds coming out of commercial breaks before it changed into the more traditional “TSN”
I don’t think I’ve seen that before. I know Sportsnet uses the Rogers logo only in certain circumstances, so I’m assuming it’s a response to that.
Yes you can tell how interested I was in the game when I’m commenting a graphic.

Had to laugh (or cry) at tRump's Lies social website where he lashed out at Bad Bunny saying nobody could understand what he was saying.
That's right Donald, nobody speaks Spanish.

I then remembered The Shawshank Redemption and this quote from Morgan Freeman’s character :
”I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don’t want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I’d like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can’t be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.”

You might be right about
Baseball and NBA, but
NBC Sunday night football also shows up in this ad: (& no golf)

Greg Brady noted on AM640 Tuesday that next year's Super Bowl Sunday just happens to occur on Valentine's Day - which should make for some interesting interactions amongst couples.
But it also has a bonus you rarely see. The Monday after is President's Day in the U.S. and Family Day in Ontario. So there will be a lot of people who don't have to go to work the following morning. Hopefully that won't lead to an increase in people driving home drunk. But it might be a factor in how long SB parties go on.

He also disapproved of the dancers outfits. So inappropriate for early evening television when children are watching. That immediately made me think of Sam the Eagle from the Muppet Show who was always outraged at everything.

That is the plan in future. Super Bowl to be held on the Sunday before President's Day which will match up nicely with the league plans to go to an 18 game schedule. The owners always get what they want. Players will get more money, a second bye week and preseason games will be reduced again. While the current television contract runs until 2033. the NFL can open bidding discussions in 2029. Amazon will likely outbid CBS or FOX for one of the Sunday packages.

It turns out, perhaps because of all the controversy and his own fame, that Bad Bunny's halftime performance may have set a Super Bowl ratings record.
Did Bad Bunny Have The Most Viewed Super Bowl Halftime Show In History?

Speaking of ratings, the game did boffo numbers on CTV and its various offshoots.
Super Bowl LX reaches nearly 16M Canadian viewers
Offline
That 16 million is a bit misleading however. That is the number of people that tuned in for some part of the game. Bad Bunny's halftime show was likely the peak of the broadcast.
The more telling is the average number of viewers which normally would be what is promoted. This year the average was 6.8 million viewers in Canada, down from 8.5 million last year and way down from 10 million in 2024. Overall the ratings for the Super Bowl in Canada are down 32% from two years ago. I am sure when they are released, the ratings in the US will be another story.
The ratings press release from Bell Media..6.8 Million Viewers Watch SUPER BOWL LX on TSN, CTV, RDS, and Crave, Reaching Nearly 16 Million Canadians - Bell Media

Did Bad Bunny Have The Most Viewed Super Bowl Halftime Show In History?HA! Trump was against it...and he calls himself a business man!!
I've seen some photos from Mar-A-Lago showing the NFL halftime show on the big screens in the background.
Not a whiff of the TPUSA event.

And by the way, Donald, what language is Mar A Lago? Could it be, oh I dunno....SPANISH for Sea to Lake?

We should have let the political thread continue, and strictly kept political commentary there. Because, guess what, it's not going away... not in this environment.

I'm hoping it's a one off. But I've pledged that if this vine starts to grow out of control again, the thread will be locked. It's the only way I know to stop it from spreading like an out of control virus.
Again, to be clear, I am no fan of that horrible man down south. It's just that, unless it's something broadcast related like cutting funding to NPR and PBS, it's doesn't really belong here.

The worst part is I don't think I even realized the political implications of what I had posted.
My bad. I'm usually pretty apolitical but pointing out the nonsense is an easy (and partisan) trap to fall into.

It wasn't your comment that was the issue. It was the one that followed that was flat out political and had nothing to do with TV or radio. At least yours was about something broadcast related.

Not according to Sports Media Watch. The Bad Bunny halftime show averaged 128.2M in the 8;15 quarter hour, down from last year's 133.5M for Kendrick Lamar and 129.3M for Usher two years ago. According to SMW, that 135M number appears to have been a made up social media post.
