Just wanted to thank all the posters and the lurkers who make SOWNY what it is all year round. Without all of you, I'd be talking to myself. And I do enough of that now! Have a wonderful holiday.
And don't forget Doug Thompson's CHUM Christmas and New Year's jingles, which he kindly contributed to the site in 2020.

And I would like to thank you RadioActive for doing a great job of managing the SOWNY board and for putting up with us on a daily basis! I find this board very informative, especially with all the broadcast history and knowledge members share, thanks people!
Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and all the best for 2026 to each of you!

This board brings something fun and exciting to a great many people. I am not sure who owns or operates it, but thank you and all the best for the season.

To answer your question, no one really owns this place, per se. It's provided by Boardhost, which is a service that allows users to start their own message boards for free. A long time ago, Dale Patterson, the genius behind "Rock Radio Scrapbook," started it as an adjunct to his other site.
But it got to be too time consuming, so he wound up handing it off to others to run. People like the late, great Craig Smith kept it going, and while it had several admins. after he passed, it disappeared one day. It was resurrected by Iain Grant of CFRB, who ran it for a while.
But when he got too busy to give it the attention it needed (it takes up far more time than you'd think) he noticed that I was a constant poster and contacted me to see if I wanted to keep it going, or else he was going to shut it down again. After some careful thought, (including a whole bunch of people who warned me not to do it and that I'd regret it!) I agreed to take it on.
I've been doing it ever since for the fun and challenge of it, since it doesn't pay anything (and indeed costs me a yearly stipend to keep it ad free.)
So that's the history up until now. Hopefully, it has more in front of it than behind it! And it's nice to see that Iain occasionally still shows up here all these years later. And so do so many interested posters who have a lot of interesting things to say. It would not be the same without any of you.

Whatever hapend to a gentleman known as Phil? I forget his last name, but he gave the board a blue look for a short while. There was also a Robert something, I think?

If memory serves, Phil was an amateur radio guy and he got fed up with having to look after the board. It's hard to believe, but it can be overwhelming at times. For whatever reason, he decided to shut it down. It wasn't until Iain resurrected it that it came back to life and it's been here ever since.

Radioactive - Well, I, for one, thank you very much for your volunteering. I am sure at times it feels like a thankless job but it makes my life more interesting. I do not work in radio, and have never worked in radio. I am just a kid who grew up in the 1970s idolizing Jim Brady, Tom Rivers, Mike Cooper, Bill Hayes, John Majhor, Roger Ashby, Rick Hodge, John Rode, and the many other voices who came through my AM radio. So, this board is a chance for me to offer my opinions on what I hear today. So, on the days where it feels like more work than you would like, just know people like me check here daily and appreciate it more than you know.

Happy holidays to you RA and fellow board members. It has been a rough year and will probably get rougher sadly, but everything eventually rights itself and the world goes on. Until then, keep on trucking.

Really Appreciate the way RA manages to keep the big yellow board from going off the rails especially since the events of the past few years and the tectonic shift in civil and kind behavior the world seems to be trying to endure and respond to..
I learn lots of cool and interesting stuff reading the posts people share.
I wish you all a safe and happy holiday and as Tiny Tim certainly never said "God bless us every pun."

As I am sure you know I check in at least once every day. Enjoy reading the posts and the thoughts that follow.
All the best to you RadioActive. The dedication it takes to do what you do deserves a standing ovation. So hear it comes - Thank You!

Two of the three biggies are pretty much done...just New Years eve/day to get through. We made it. Thanks SO much to RA and all you other posters for keeping the BYB up and running. It is pretty much the last board standing in this country, and we do appreciate it so much![]()
