That's because the owner of the talk radio giant took over the frequency from the existing station serving Rockland Country, N.Y., with the idea of eventually putting local programming there. But instead, that promise seems destined not to be kept, with 1700 now simulcasting the WABC signal.
I'm not sure if anyone here will be able to get WRCR-AM in this part of the world. It's 10,000 watts day and only 1,000 watts night. But there's not a lot of other stations on that frequency, and stranger things have happened. So if you're tuning around some night and the voices on the X-band outlet sound like something on 770, you've got your confirmation.
But local folks in the area are pretty disappointed that they're lost a source for local news and shows, instead hearing ultra right-leaning shows from the Big Apple.
WABC Radio Has No Plans to Return with AM 1700

I will have to try this out on my DX-286 after 5pm. It does an excellent job of nulling. I may try the car radio too on the 401.

WRCR 1700 (repeating WABC) was coming like like a local this afternoon around 2:30 p.m. here in Ajax.

I heard it weakly, but still listenable around 3:30pm. At the same time 660,710, 880 and 1030 were all blasting in. By 5pm, 1700 was gone.

Much more fun on 1700 to listen at night to KKLF in Richardson TX with Radio Jalapeno.
