Just before his debrief with Deb Hutton early Friday, CFRB morning show host John Moore referred to SOWNY - although not by name - complaining that a certain online forum was criticizing him for looking forward to his vacation, which starts next week.
When Hutton asked him what he was referring to, he refused to talk about it and said a "forum" or a "board" was referencing his own constant references to his time off.
Just to set the record straight, I did not complain about his coming few weeks of leisure - merely wondering if he was going to go to the States as usual, given the current hostility between the U.S. and Canada. I know one poster did critique him constantly for referring to it, but there is another side to it - hey, John, at least we're listening! That's what really should pre-occupy you!
He also referenced my post about "having dementia" because he could not recall his longtime newsman's name at one point on Thursday. I was not accusing him of having anything, just noting he has a history of gapping on air quite often and that his family has a history of the disease. It wasn't a criticism, per se, just noting that I was worried about him and others who have memory issues.
It does not mean there's anything wrong with him. But I watched my mother disappear over many years into the insanity of this disease and I would not wish that on anyone. So I hope he'll be fine and I'm sure he'll come back from his well deserved vacation refreshed and ready to go.
I hope he has a great time and that it's - you should pardon the expression - unforgettable.

If this was the U.S., he'd be suing SOWNY for billions...😁

I think John Moore is heading to Provincetown for his annual summer vacation, but isn’t talking it up with the current Canada/US situation. I think he should have kept it under wraps until today to announce his vacation and left it at that as us listeners had too much time to mull it over. I hope he has a great vacation, elbows up or down!

I don't understand why there is so much interest on where or when John is going on holiday. He doesn't owe the audience an explanation, but if he kept bringing it up then I guess part of this is on him.
More likely he will talk about the vacation when he gets back, where he was and what he did. Many would find that more interesting rather than speculation where he is going. Everyone gets holidays and if he has family and close friends in the US, it shouldn't be a surprise if he goes there.

Isn't there a point in one's life when you kinda stop caring about who likes or dislikes you? Maybe it's just me?

Actually, Canadians are more vulnerable than Americans to libel and defamation lawsuits. The following chart explains the differences pretty succinctly:

This just proves everyone is tuned in to SOWNY.
It's where the big names come to talk...

Thems the facts, but with their 'asshole in chief' leading the way, the ambulance chasing Americans are never far from over the top litigation.

You can hear Moore's SOWNY comments at the 9:40 mark of this podcast.
And since you admit to occasionally dropping in to see what we're saying about you, for the record, sir, I don't think it's fair to say most here hate you. In fact, many have praised your AM efforts as among the most balanced of all the talkers in town.
That said, have a great vacation. You've earned the time off.

If you're in media (radio, TV, podcasts, print), you should always expect criticism as well as praise. It comes with the job. John Moore seems to not understand that premise.

Agreed. A wise old Frenchman I used to work with often said "if you can't stand da heat, stay oud of da fire!" Raymond always mangled his metaphors. 😁

He doesn't seem to get that we do not begrudge him a vacation... who would?
It's just his constant mentioning of it.
It's annoying, and yes it does kind of rub it in for people who do not have any vacation time in the offing.
As for our remarks being "petty" and the Board's name not worth mentioning, well too bad.
When you're a broadcast personality people are going to say things about your performance.
As others have noted here, people have mainly said nice things about him over the years.

Last time I checked Canadians are free to travel wherever they choose to, If JM choses to go to the USA, it's none of my business.

I heard John make a reference to his memory gaff early this morning, while handing off to the 6:30am newscast. His comment made me think that he may have seen what I'd also been reading in this thread last night. Personally, I don't think forgetting people's names is always indicative of memory loss or dementia. Sometimes, I think we tend to hone in on our weaknesses (in this case, forgetting names) and ruminate on them, then wind up convincing ourselves that we just won't be able to remember certain things. Certainly, a good way to psych yourself out. But, as we age, we all fear developing noticeable memory loss.
I look at the brain much like a muscle: It needs to be exercised or it will deteriorate. Myself, I journal every day. I make myself recall what I did the day before and the details around those activities; whether it be completing a job around the house or having a conversation with someone I meet. As time passes, you will end up with quite a long list of things you have done but, down the road, it will be quite an interesting read as it will help trigger your brain to remember those mundane things we just gloss over each day. It’s also handy to have such a list around if you are retired, so that you can easily answer that dreaded question: “So, what are you doing now to pass the time of day”. You can retort with “Well, I spend time posting to forums that speculate where radio hosts might go on their vacation!”. :-)

All this started solely because Moore usually tells his listeners where he's going on his annual summer vacation (i.e. Cape Cod.) This year, for the first time, I noticed he didn't say anything. (Proving how long I've been listening.) It just seemed unusual and I wondered if the ongoing Canada-U.S. standoff played a role in that. Otherwise, I couldn't really care where he goes, I just hope has a good time.
As for the memory issues, that name gap wasn't the only one. I've heard him not be able to summon names, movie titles, artists, etc. on air way too often in the past. If this was the only time it happened, I would not be concerned. But given his family history (not to mention my own) it made me wonder. I like his show and admire the man. I would not want to see anything happen to him.
It wasn't being said out of typical social media malice. Rather, true concern because I've been through it just like he has. Although I can see why he might have taken it the wrong way.

A brief update for you RA
Monday morning on his daily 7:20 a.m. appearance on CJAD 800 in Montreal host Andrew Carter asked Moore about his two week vacation & I thought of you
Would John Moore be specific & tell his hometown Montreal audience where he went or would he continue to be coy?
Well he alluded to sitting on the beach and staring at the sky
And then he added he has been doing the same vacation for 30 years!!
No destination, geographic locale or place name was offered
But I think there is only one conclusion you can safely draw

Thanks for that. I think you're right. He's been going to Mass. for years and I don't judge him on his choice. To each his own. Personally, I would not go within a mile of the border right now, but again, his decision. I hope he got the rest he needs. With only one day off left in the next half year, he's going to need it!

I continue to worry about his health, despite Mr. Moore's protestations. On Wednesday, he blanked on Jim Richards' last name, a colleague he's worked with on a daily basis for decades. His producer had to fill in the name for him. Another disturbing lapse on air.
Hopefully, it means nothing. But it just keeps happening.

Re. John Moore
He had Tory MP Michelle Rempel Garner on Wed. morning.
She was talking about lenient criminal sentences for aspiring Canadian citizens
A few minutes after she was gone he referred to her as "The M-P."
It sounded like he did not remember her name

RA, were you listening to John Moore at 8:44 this morning? He could not recall the name of a regular advertiser. Coming back a few minutes later he explained it away as a result of having a big brain and thinking about several things at once.

Didn't hear that one, but I've noticed this is happening a lot. I sure hope there's nothing serious going on beyond fatigue. Lack of sleep - which every morning man suffers from - can seriously impair your memory. I just hope it's nothing more than that. But the frequency of these events is concerning.
This isn't criticism - it's concern. I quite enjoy his show and would not want to see anything happen to it - or him.

It seems like some, although they profess otherwise, are relishing pointing out every little forgetfulness stumble.
Forgetting a name or forgetting where one left their car keys are common memory lapses that are likely to increase as we age. It's much more important that someone communicates in a rational, logical manner. When to really worry is when one forgets what their car keys are used for.
When memory loss is normal
We’ve all had moments when we couldn’t remember something simple, like someone’s name, only to have it come to us later. These changes in memory can be irritating, but they are common and manageable — and don’t cause a major disruption to your daily life.“Memory slips like this are common,” says Dr. Finney. “The key is that it comes back to you eventually and that you didn’t completely forget. If it’s harder to remember or think things through than it used to be, even when you give yourself all the time you need with no distractions, you may need to see your doctor.”

Over all, I find there has been a lot of nit-picking on SOWNY of late

I think this thread has run its course. Moore knows, if that's been the aim of this exercise. And surely the station knows. The point's been made. We've thoroughly covered whatever story there is. Unless something changes or significant happens, it does feel like beating a dead horse, almost to the point of picking on the man.

I agree with Saul. I see no reason to pile on John Moore as “memory loss is normal’ as g121 posted and I’d like to think that the members on SOWNY are better than that. Also, I listen to Moore in the Morning pretty much every weekday and think he does an excellent job, flubs and all, we all make mistakes, so let’s move on!

Also spoke about retirement on this show. He made it clear Toronto will have John Moore around for many years to razz about forgetting the name 'Jiffy app'.
