It was also in the Globe.

Because of course, the right wing rags would NEVER EVER be guilty of publishing something dishonest. Besides, I don't see the gist of the article being that much different than elsewhere.

When the Economist and Globe are referred to as left leaning, I take stock and move on...

Credit to this NBC news station for airing a story about a MAGA supporter that's now in the "finding out" phase of realizing Trump doesn't care if his voters lose their businesses or not, so long as they deport the brown people out of the USA as fast as they can:
Trump voter in Florida Keys says ICE detained a third of his employees at small roofing company, “thought the administration was going to focus on deporting criminals, but seems immigration officials are just trying to meet quotas…”
The six men were heading to do a job for Vincent Scardina early on May 27th when they were stopped by immigration authorities on U.S. 1 in Sugarloaf Key.
According to an incident report from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies then transported some of the men to a detention facility in the Keys “for deportation.” Three have already been transferred to detention centers in Texas and California.
“It’s pretty obvious,” a coworker says, “the reason why they were pulled over is because they’re Latino men.”
At least 5 of the 6 men from Nicaragua are in the U.S. legally, says their attorney Regilucia Smith: “They are legally here. They have an authorization to stay… Valid work permit…no criminal records, not here, not in Nicaragua.”
Scardina, who’s lived in Key West for 44 year and owned the roofing company for 37, says, “You get to know these guys, you become their friends, just not an employer, but a friend, and you see what happens to their family. It’s… It’s quite a shock.”
“I know of one landscaper,” Scardina continues, “that lost nine or 10 of his whole crew he had and he’s just totally out of business all of a sudden, just like that.”
In the video, I truly believe the guy looked at his employees are people, friends, and not just cheap labour. He does seem emotionally affected at losing them.

Such a sad, insecure, pathetic little wannabe dictator.
He's beneath contempt.

As per CTV, a Canadian has now died while being held in ICE custody:
'Johnny Noviello, a 49-year-old citizen of Canada in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was pronounced deceased by the Miami Fire Rescue Department June 23 at 1:36 p.m. The cause of death is still under investigation.'
He doesn't have the greatest background, having been involved in drug trafficking apparently, but he did serve his time for it.
Someone online pointed out:
The guy was a legal resident of the US and a citizen of Canada. He’d served his time and was appearing at his parole office for his appointment where he was grabbed. While not the best guy in the world, he was in the US legally and was trying to follow the law.
Keep in mind that the US government also now pays bounty hunters as well to grab folks off the streets, offering about $1000 to $1500US per undocumented immigrant. These are usually the ones who don't have the official uniform and are wearing masks.

Apparently the Canadian who died was a Trump supporter. The internet has found his social media and extracted some of his posts and retweets...
Something tells me that our news isn't going to report that tidbit...
Also: you can't vote for the Democrats if you're not a citizen of America. Now let's control who gets to remain a citizen of the US.

Is the scent is as classless as the bottle? This looks like something you would find at Dollarama, but he has a huge no-taste base so it will probably sell, with his classy gold runners!

Wondering if the Secret Service had to step in and help him get back up. And yes, I thought the same. He would of looked like that back in the 80's.

For those who didn't see the news yesterday, Trump's insane "Big Beautiful Bill" passed both the House and Senate and is on its way to becoming law once Trump signs off on it. To repeat my prediction from earlier in this thread, any dictatorship needs a strong military force to keep its citizens in line when the inevitable protests and resistance begin to materialize. This bill increases the budget of ICE to TWENTY times what it is now, and for some perspective on just how big that is...
This bar chart is particularly eye-opening (note where Canada stands by comparison):
ICE includes people hired from white supremacist groups like the Proud Boys and it's not a shock to hear many referring to ICE as Trump's own paramilitary gestapo. They have been filmed snatching people off the street, at their workplace, attending court to their scheduled immigration court cases, shopping etc. literally being stuffed into vans by men in masks, sunglasses, and body armor. They can then be detained and sent off to that horrific El Salvador prison or the new "Alligator Alcatraz" in Florida, certain to be a inhumane disaster considering it will be underseen by the GOP's Rick "Deathsantis" whose incompetence during COVID-19 is well-documented.
The insidious way in which the right-wing has structured the bill, it first gives tax cuts to the billionaires immediately but the cuts to Medicaid won't be felt by the masses until (conveniently) AFTER next year's mid-term elections, when the suckers who are still voting Republican will finally realize how stupid they truly were:
A simple visual that shows right-wing politicians helping who they always help:
Online!
Earlier on this year, one of the most confusing things about DOGE's huge cuts to the budget of US national parks is that it seemed idiotic to massively cut the $3.6 billion budget for National parks when they produce about $55 billion in revenue.
This morning, Anonymous offered a great reason why, and it would also explain why Trump's regime seems so determined to drive away Canadian and other foreign tourists from coming to America:
Anonymous @YourAnonCentral
Trump wants to kill tourism so national parks and monuments can’t fund themselves. He will use the narrative that they are costing the government money and auction them off to resource corporations, that’s the grift.
@Incilin
And then corporations will charge you 10X as much to do the stuff you can do in the park now and call it freedom
EDIT: it occurs to me that some people aren't going to pick up the subtle clue of where I am headed with this line of thinking. Here's a snippet from my chatGPT query:
Q: do any of Donald Trump's children own businesses that are in real estate development?
A: Yes, several of Donald Trump's children are actively involved in real estate development businesses:
Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump are both executive vice presidents at the Trump Organization, which is a major real estate development company founded by their father. Since 2017, they have overseen the company's global portfolio, including the financing and development of hotels, residential properties, golf courses, and other real estate ventures both in the U.S. and internationally. They have recently been involved in promoting and managing new real estate projects, such as a $1 billion luxury hotel in Dubai, a golf course and villa complex in Qatar, and other international developments.
Ivanka Trump is independently pursuing a significant real estate development project with her husband, Jared Kushner. They are planning to invest $1.4 billion to transform the Albanian island of Sazan, a former Soviet military base, into a luxury resort. This marks Ivanka's first direct foray into luxury hotel and resort development, though both she and Kushner have longstanding family ties to the real estate sector.

On a totally unrelated note, please pay close attention to who owns the land around the various mega-construction projects authorized by Doug Ford's government. Hint: you can find their names on the guest list of the Ford's daughter's wedding invite list.

EXCERPT...
"The Murdochs have dedicated their careers to killing off our democracy (and ruining family and other personal relationships) with the propaganda machine of Fox News, while actual journalists must follow the norms of journalism, while often editorially under the thumb of corporate overlords — one truthful expression of opinion can get them canceled."

Anyone who can't, or won't, see where all this is going is willfully blind. Thank god most Canadians have a clear-eyed view of tRump and the MAGAts.

From the New York Times, July 10 2025:
The FBI is said to be using lie detectors to test employees’ loyalty, asking some whether they have criticized Kash Patel.
Typically, the F.B.I. has turned to polygraph tests to sniff out employees who might have betrayed their country or shown they cannot be trusted with secrets.
Since Kash Patel took office as the director of the F.B.I., the bureau has significantly stepped up the use of the lie-detector test, at times subjecting personnel to a question as specific as whether they have cast aspersions on Mr. Patel himself. In interviews and polygraph tests, the F.B.I. has asked senior employees whether they have said anything negative about Mr. Patel, according to two people with knowledge of the questions and others familiar with similar accounts.
In one instance, officials were forced to take a polygraph as the agency sought to determine who disclosed to the news media that Mr. Patel had demanded a service weapon, an unusual request given that he is not an agent. The number of officials asked to take a polygraph is in the dozens, several people familiar with the matter said, though it is unclear how many have specifically been asked about Mr. Patel. The use of the polygraph, and the nature of the questioning, is part of the F.B.I.’s broader crackdown on news leaks, reflecting, to a degree, Mr. Patel’s acute awareness of how he is publicly portrayed.
The moves, former bureau officials say, are politically charged and highly inappropriate, underscoring what they describe as an alarming quest for fealty at the F.B.I., where there is little tolerance for dissent. Disparaging Mr. Patel or his deputy, Dan Bongino, former officials say, could cost people their job.“An F.B.I. employee’s loyalty is to the Constitution, not to the director or deputy director,” said James Davidson, a former agent who spent 23 years in the bureau. “It says everything about Patel’s weak constitution that this is even on his radar.”

And that is how easily you can lose a country. Idiots voting for idiots. Idiots appointing idiots. Stay vigilant. We dodged a bullet this time.
Here's praying that America wakes up STAT.

Anytime, any place in the world when your government is using lie detector tests to ensure that it's enforcers of the law are ALL completely loyal to the top man, you know that this government is planning something heinous in the near future.
There's an interview with Patty Hartman who warns that there is no longer a separation between the White House and the Dept of Justice as there has been in the past. Under Pam Bondi, you can undoubtedly expect more cover-ups (like with the ridiculous announcement this week from her office that there is no client list for Jeffrey Epstein, despite Bondi herself only months earlier saying that she had the files on her desk, heaps of documents... hmmm, wonder what orange-skinned cheeto she's trying to protect?)
