Also curious, the few times I tuned in to WBKV 102.5 (While in Toronto), it seemed as though it was a national syndication with no local announcers and no local weather, traffic or news etc.  I'm surprised that this is allowed.

All 520 K-Love stations run the same national programming (minus legal IDs)

No rules around local content on US radio (though I think commercial stations have to have a home market studio? Not that that means anything anymore)

I've noticed lately that some days I cannot even get 102.5fm in the GTA anymore (driving from Vaughan to Don Mills/Finch and downtown).

Is something locally interfering with 102.5 now?
They wouldn't have reduced their power I think..

I'm in Toronto and they have a good signal right now.  I think there might be slight propagation enhancement over the lake this evening.

I've been away for the last month but have read reports that a few DXers have caught 102.5 Buffalo off a few times...

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

I've always marvelled at how few connected the call sign cfNY with that of the Buffalo station home state. The Allen Brothers - owners of the original CFNY often commented how they used those 2 letters just for fun....as in New York as they got the 102.1 frequency. They got the licence as a way to have a Toronto station overtake the Buffalo station on a nearby frequency.

In fact one day in a store room I remember finding thousands of these bumper sticker hidden away in a closet....boxes and boxes of them.

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

According to Radio Insights, for the Jan-Mar 2025 ratings period, WBKV ranks 12th with a 2.2 share. Just behind WNED [2.5] and just ahead of WBUF [1.4]

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

Buffalo Radio Discussions says that K-Love is off the air a lot.  The Buffalo station at 102.5 doesn't do any local production, but the satellite feed from Nashville goes down more than it should.  Also I had no idea that Buffalo and area has 8 religious oriented radio stations, and some of these have repeaters.  The Queen City is ready for the judgement day!  https://radiodiscussions.com/threads/k-love-s-dead-air.776594/

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

Out of curiousity, I just had a look at Lyngsat and see their satellite backhaul is delivered on Ku Band. This band is prone to rainfade, both the uplink and downlink (as Bell/Shaw dish owners will attest). As we are in storm season, this could be why. EMF would be wise to have an Internet backhaul delivery as a backup, IMHO.

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

Solar flares have been doing a number on XDS for the last month.  Skyview - the guys who distribute CBS and ABC,  have been using an internet backup because of it.   But there's still been dead air at the top of the hour.

Off the air @ 102.5, but the station is still up and running online:

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

I wonder how many people actually notice or care, aside from people on radio boards and DXers?

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

I wish they gave proper IDs with call letters more often than just on the hourtop. I think our friend, the late Bruce Elving, would agree given his extensive campaign to get the CBC to ID with individual call letters on the hourtop.

Somehow the answer to this ended up above it

Nice to hear that frequency clear.  Thought I might have now heard CBC R1 in Shelbourne, but nope.

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

Easiest targets for Toronto area DXers would be Rome NY, Bay City MI, Ottawa ON, Pittsburgh PA, Edgewood OH, and Elliot Lake ON. I don't think I've heard Elliot Lake... E-skip has been poor of late but if an opening fires up there's opportunities from roughly 400-1500 miles.

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

I should add, too, that in the Buffalo market 102.5 K-Love has a couple of billboards advertising the station. It ONLY took them about 2 years to do this.... SMH....

Buffalo Bills fans were quicker in getting a 'FIRE COACH JAURON' billboard! 😁

Re: K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon...

WBKV has applied for STA for low power because of transmitter failure.
Does low power equal no power and wheres is the licensed back up transmitter of 8KW.
