Can Kimmel sue? This literally is a supreme court ruling from LAST YEAR.
He certainly can, but with a tRump-stacked SCOTUS, we know what his chances are.
Freedom of thought, speech and deeds are now dead in Amerikkka, murdered by a two-bit conman from Queens. I hope the American populace is proud of itself for choosing authoritarianism over all those grandiose phrases adorning their monuments and buildings. Pffffft.

Perhaps an edit from their network, ABC?

More than likely an edict rather than an edit.

It was never a topic of discussion. I assume they were told not to mention it.

Last night for me I did not get simsub. CityTV was airing something else last night instead of Kimmel.

As stated earlier in this very long thread, it was a rerun of Hudson & Rex.

I'm breaking my own rule about politics, because this is just so alarming and I have no doubt he's been emboldened enough to do it. And you likely knew this was coming.
They had better act fast to head this off or we're one step away from Pravda and only one source for news.
Trump floats stripping networks critical of him of their broadcast licenses
“They’re giving me all this bad press, and they’re getting a license,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One when asked if Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr should go after other talk show hosts after Jimmy Kimmel was suspended from the air. “I would think maybe their license should be taken away.”
He added: “When you have a network and you have evening shows and all they do is hit Trump, that’s all they do — that license, they’re not allowed to do that. They’re an arm of the Democrat Party.”
It's a world where Fox News may be the only thing you'll be allowed to watch. Kim Jung Un would be proud.

Rogers has lots of money they should re ignite late night TV from Toronto it'll be the greatest thing on CityTV since " Late Great Movies " and Late Late Great Movies.

Sorry Forward Power, but that last post of yours had to be deleted. I'm sure you worked hard writing it, but it was so far over the top, I just could not allow it to stand here.
When the President of the United States threatens to censor or pull the licence of any TV news organization or station that has the temerity to disagree with him, that's not only a huge headline, it's downright frightening. And I have no doubt he hopes to do just that.
This is the most serious challenge to free speech in our lifetime in this part of the world. Those opposed must act now to stop it before they're muzzled forever.
And yes, as much as I will inevitably live to regret it, I'm breaking my own rule about politics here. That's how serious I think this is.
It starts with Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert. It may well end in the Sounds of Silence. Hello Darkness my old friend, indeed.

And yet, in spite of the escalating rate of authoritarian steps taken by the tRump Administration, some still don't seem to get how bad it is.
Once all opposition is muted in Amerikkka, tRump's gaze will turn northward.
If you think that sounds crazy, remember how none of the past eight months would have seemed possible a mere decade ago.

I've already said in the big thread that we cannot even trust what is coming out of the FBI any longer, because it is now controlled by a Trump loyalist. And I agree with RA, we are only a mere step away now from a state-controlled single channel news network (or maybe they'll just take over FOX News) telling us what to think without any other competing voice to offer a critical view. This IS Big Brother, happening in real-time.

I don't think it's hysteria to be worried about the leader of a country - any country - seeking to punish those who dare to criticize him. Look at every Communist regime that's ever existed. Those who oppose either wind up in jail or dead. Ask Mr. Putin why so many people seem to fall out of windows in his country.
Indeed, it's common sense to try and prevent the loss of free speech because once you lose it, it's awfully hard to get it back.
I thought it was interesting, by the way, that NBC News led with the Kimmel fallout. ABC's World News Tonight didn't.

Kind of like former Prime Minister Mr. Nice Hair and Socks. Time will tell whether his replacement is any better, but I am glad that The Bulldog is back in The House to keep things in check.

I'm not sure who can get this in Canada, but in the absence of Kimmel, Jon Stewart is returning for the night on Thursday for a special appearance as host of the Daily Show. He usually only appears on Mondays. I'm quite sure he'll have a lot to say about what happened to his talk show host colleague.

It's bad enough we have to deal with Trump. Can we leave Canadian politics out of this before it starts all over again? And I'm not taking sides. I can't stand any of them.

City TV's Thursday substitute for Kimmel: Impractical Jokers, an old cable candid camera style show. They 'd better settle on something regular by next week, because it does not look like Kimmel will be back anytime soon.

Just bring back Late Great Movies already, I'll watch them out of nostalgia's sake.

All the remaining late show hosts addressed the issue on Thursday night.

Having seen the clip in question, I didn't find it the least bit offensive. Having said that [I couldn't resist] I don't find Jimmy Kimmel the least bit funny and refuse to watch his show. I have always been strongly against cancel culture from either side of the political spectrum. The viewers should decide his fate. If you are offended, don't watch. If enough viewers disappear, so will the advertisers and the show vanishes from the airwaves. Sounds like common sense to me. Maybe that is what is missing.

A good summary of the situation by Chris Murphy:
@ChrisMurphyCT
The Kimmel suspension is a much bigger deal than you know.
It's really about a growing alliance between Trump and the companies that own America's local TV stations - like Nexstar - to turn local TV into Trump propaganda.
Let me tell you the short story. It's chilling.
In August, Nexstar announced they wanted to buy another TV station company, Tegna.
But that's illegal - because it would give Nexstar control of stations in nearly half the country. FCC rules prohibit ONE company from having THAT much control over local TV content.
Why? Because one company shouldn't control local speech in half the country.
Also, we want our local TV stations to be run by local actors to preserve local identity and prevent our culture from becoming soullessly flattened - which Nexstar was already doing!
But good news for Nexstar! Brendan Carr, Trump's FCC Chair, said he's open to an unprecedented change in the rules to allow the Nexstar-Tegna merger to go through - which would be good ONLY for the filthy rich owners of both companies.
Which means Nexstar has to play ball.
So when Carr threatened to revoke the licenses of local stations that continued to air Kimmel - at the same time he was whispering to Nexstar that he might bend the rules to approve their billion dollar merger - Nexstar knew what to do: BEND THE KNEE.
Perry Sook, the Nexstar CEO, is already worth over $500 million. This deal could make him a billionaire.
If Nexstar controls local TV news content in half the country - and Sook owes his fortune to Trump - then Trump effectively controls content in half the nation.
And it’s not just Nexstar! Sinclair, another right-leaning media group that owns local TV stations, demanded Kimmel apologize and make a donation to Charlie Kirk’s organization.
Guess what? Sinclair also wants the FCC to increase the ownership cap for TV stations.
So here's how it would work.
Nexstar/Sinclair pledge loyalty to Trump. He gives them control over America's local TV. And they act as his political enforcers, silencing his critics.
But if we see the scheme, we can stop it. By mobilizing and speaking out.

TomTV, the point that those who cheer the silencing of tRump opponents are missing is...
If somehow Democrats win the next presidential election, in 2028, and wind up with the House and/or the Senate to support the new president's objectives, how will right-wingers react to the silencing of Fox News, Newsmax and a host of other rabidly-rightwing broadcasters and streamers? Given the precident-setting actions of tRump's FCC, why would anyone be upset if Democrats return volley?
Further, how is it that so many advocates of America's 1st Amendment willingly turn a blind eye when free speech is trampled upon by tRump's Administration? I think the phrase we're all looking for is "double standard".
It's all fun for MAGAts now, but nothing lasts forever...as is being proven by the current smearing of the United States Constitution.
What a shame. America almost made it to 250 years before the nutcases, the self-absorbed billionaires, took over and killed it.

News reports indicate Kimmel and his people met with ABC brass on Thursday, but failed to come close to any agreement that might allow him back on air. He's pretty much remained silent, but as this thing expands like The Big Bang, I suspect he'll eventually have to say something.
Speculation is that he'll do it - but not on ABC. It's said negotiations are ongoing to bring him on as a guest on Colbert's show on CBS. Now THAT would be Must See TV.
Jimmy Kimmel and ABC reportedly fail to agree on deal to bring back late-night show
