You may remember last month when CKTB went off the air for days, with no real explanation. It took almost a week, but they finally came back to what sounded like normal.
Until now.
I tried to listen to their entertaining weekend morning show early Sunday, and could barely hear them. They're there, but with obviously vastly reduced power. It was so bad, what I think was WTVN was almost as loud as they were.
In a podcast featured on Broadcast Dialogue not long ago, new owner Michael Caine of Whiteoaks - which has yet to officially take over - mused some of his acquired stations would possibly be getting a new transmitter. Makes me wonder if he was talking about 610.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who's noticed.
A listener from Oshawa sent them a text to say he could no longer hear them and was turning the station off. Host Karl Dockstater acknowledged the issue, did not say what was causing it or how long it might last and advised listening online.
Whatever is going on, it's a longstanding issue and I hope they finally fix it once and for all.

CKTB's operating certificate shows that they are licensed for 1 kW standby operation, whereas the normal day power is 10 kW and the night power is 5 kW. For daytime that represents a 10 dB reduction in signal strength, and for night 7 dB. If their main transmitter has failed, that would explain the significant drop in signal strength.

The hamster is anemic? Might I suggest Geritol!

In Kawarthas, CKTB seems pretty much normal. It's now just prior to sunset. Weak Philly (Black Information Network) underneath on south antenna. But that's normal.
