Just as a sidebar to this, remember the infamous OJ Simpson slow speed car chase?

I used to wonder about the rationale for that slow speed OJ pursuit, until I discovered that almost all LA pursuits are that way.

Viewing Youtube videos of 'Arkansas Police Pursuits' provides an entirely different perspective on police pursuits.

LA pursuits run anywhere from one to three hours. Arkansas pursuits usually last less than 15 minutes. 🤣

A better way of describing LA pursuits would be to label them LA police escorts.

If you haven't happened across Stu Mundel, FOX11 LA, you're missing a great communicator.

Imagine being paid to fly around in a helicopter all day, while covering police pursuits. Stu's verbal magic is something to behold and sure adds to the story. Somebody bring this guy to Toronto.

The Frogman was an opening act for The Beatles 1964 North American tour.

He had some amazing memories to share, as detailed in this 20-year-old article...

The weird thing about my WOWO catch came nearly 30 years or so later, when I was working in a TV newsroom. The main anchor brought in a friend from out of town, and was showing him around the complex. When he got to where I was sitting, he introduced me to the guy, who said he was from Ft. Wayne, Indiana

I turned to say hello to him and by sheer coincidence, I was wearing my one and only WOWO T-shirt that day. (That's it below, a bit faded, but still around.)

The guy almost lost his mind. He thought no one had ever heard of Ft. Wayne in Toronto, let alone its most famous radio station.

What were the odds?

Quoting for posterity. That, right there, is a buy-some-lottery-tickets story, RA.

As always, people will scream and stamp their feet, just like they did about wearing seatbelts,  motorcycle helmets and using unleaded fuel.

Fortunately, most people have stopped licking lead paint...haven't they? 😉

SOWNY » Well that was short lived, NBC News cuts ties with McDaniel » March 27, 2024 11:47 am

Anyone who bothered to listen to the specific reasons why MSNBC hosts, and staff, spoke up about this bad hire, will understand.

Those who respond solely to the headlines, will not understand.

C'est la vie.

SOWNY » Revolt in NBC's news division » March 25, 2024 9:44 pm

Rachel Maddow just spent 25 minutes linking historical references of fascism in America with the modern day takeover of the Republican Party.

And from that, she ripped a strip off of NBC News corporate management, and called for the termination of its new contract with former RNC Chair, Ronna McDaniel.

This whole fiasco is madness, but Maddow's challenge to the corporate suite, from in front of a camera which they own, is incrediblely notable. The same applies to Chuck Todd's reaction earlier.

If you missed Maddow at 9:00 p.m. this evening, set your DVR for MSNBC at midnight tonight.

Fascinating television that simply reflects the state of America back on itself.

The whole thread reminds me - and if you DX shortwave you might have experienced this too - of stories I'd hear from fellow DXers (I stuck mainly with AM, FM and TV) about their QSL reception report verification packages from the likes of Radio Moscow and Radio Habana being opened (at our end) prior to delivery.

As a young high-school reprobate, I was constantly receiving QSL cards / letters from Soviet Bloc countries. Bulgaria, East Germany, Poland, Romania, etc., and of course Mother Russia. My conservative father warned me that' "Someday the RCMP will be knocking on our door!"

Dad is long gone. The Mounties never showed up.

Agreed, just like it's weirdly entertaining to watch tRump heading to bankruptcy and imprisonment. The last 8 years have been outrageously damaging to the entire western world, but thankfully much of the mainstream media (however reluctantly) is televising his downfall.

It's the people NOT watching the mainstream media who need to catch a clue. Where are the likes of Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Morrow, etc. when we really need them?

Are we talking about the convicted ex-con (fraud and obstruction), Conrad Black? The guy pardoned by convicted fraudster, and soon to be convicted felon ex-president? Is that the Conrad Black we're talking about?

Why do so many of us wring our hands over the latest developments on, or about, CFRB?

Given its noble history, it's somehow still shocking to observe the spectacular fall from grace due to both fading (no pun intended) technology and a series of outstandingly inept management teams.

Jon, based on your offer to answer questions, plus the manner in which you answer them, tells me that you're a better-than-average boss. I'm betting the majority of your staff appreciates the leadership team they work with.

Keep on truckin'.
