It's all about branding - so Virgin instead of CKFM, News Talk 1010 instead of CFRB, Kiss 92.5 ahead of CKIS, and Q107 not CILQ. Only CHUM-FM - which has a large history in the city and has the great advantage of being a friendly pronounceable word - and maybe CHFI, which has been around forever, are among the few exceptions.
When I think of 1010 I think of CFRB, and when I thnik of 107.1 I think of CILQ. Maybe I'm old.

If it's just one station then it's likely the MPX vs HD audio feeds are not time synchronized (ie, analogue Tx is not delayed by 30s).
Once your car radio locks onto the FM carrier, it begins decoding analogue, detects the IBOC, lock and begin decoding (some sort of AAC+SBR+PS), finally it should blend between both seamlessly as HD reception comes and goes when there are errors in the bitstream.
Similar idea to satellite radio when demodulating the terrestrial carrier at the same time as the satellite carrier. Both bitstreams are similar, with different error correction (FEC) and coding types. COFDM for terrestrial, and QPSK on satellite. A/B on each for additional error correction capacity, same bitstream on both but different FEC. Most streams are AACplus like HD IBOC.
XM satellite is quite an interesting tech and no wonder why it won over the Sirius horrible sounding custom codec system.
We need more cheap HD capable radios! Anyone have a portable HD radio?

SiriusXM has done a decent job of having entertaining hosts and good music, maybe less commercials and more live mentions or hourly sponsors...

Can't see why not, online music licensing is cheap and easy, and Skychoice still has a MusicZone channel! Too bad they aren't on free to air satellite lol

Dear Radio Bosses.
Radio is important.
So much so that the audience generated 3 million and someone donated 1 million.
When you do stuff people care about - they support you.
Or play a bunch of TSN and Crave commercials, cut everything back and hope for the best..
Whatever...
I'm still at a loss on what costs these stations so much to operate, it's 2025. Humans in seats are a known cost, transmitters, electronics and electricity rates are known. Do those human butts really need $350k in office furniture, why can't they work from home?
There's no wonder commercial radio doesn't make money anymore, it's not broadcasting as public service but a business expense.

One thing I always noticed about The Bay and Zellers, their air supply vents are all so horribly dirty. Doesn't matter if you're in Oakville, or Nova Scotia. Just look up next time you're in one of the stores.

Gotta hand it to them though, it lasted a lot longer than I expected! Any word on the street if CBC will be turning on HD Radio?

Sounds liek they went off the air again sometime today. Loud and clear in in the morning, better than I heared in a while! But static in the late afternoon
The main stream page now redirects to !!
There's an interesting message there that implies more than just technical difficulties! The direct stream link is the same as the one I was given above, it's still streaming.

How's this broadcast doing? I'm planning a trip through the ge real area next week and will have to try and catch the signal.
I took a drive out to Oakville last Tuesday evening. It sounded great! I only heard three instances of signal drop or noise while on Dundas St.... at Sutton, and then Tremaine in Burlington, and finally at Dundas and Trafalgar in Oakville. All were momentary.
I headed down Eighth Ln. and then across Upper Middle to Grand Blvd (Falgarwood), then over to Trafalgar and the QEW and finally back to Burlington along the QEW,
Very solid signal, with only the three short instances of noise or drops... not too bad.
The playlist is varied and rich, and its great to hear music that I haven't heard in years... And the IDs are very polished and tight....
Still think the person(s) behind "The Music Zone" have an extensive background in radio. Or, they are a real fan of the classic CFNY "The Spirit of Radio"
How's the reception lately? I've noticed a whole lot better ground coverage near downtown.

the amazing thing is that they are very public about it, even being carried by a satellite company and carrying the CBC news which I heard a bit of yesterday.
SkyChoice is not a satellite company but rather a ground based provider. In addition to wireless towers, they also provide Internet over cable, DSL or fibre. As long as you can get Rogers, Bell or Cogeco at your home, you should have no problem getting service from them.
Looks like they got a logo, does RDS2 have the image!?

I've been listening on and off for a while, driving on the QEW and around downtown Oakville. Reception is strong and there's a pretty surprising amount of coverage! Anyone able to provide an aircheck or MPX recording? Seems to be music shows scheduled based on various times of the day.
Heard some dead air the other morning instead of Nina's syndicated show lol Been regular music since, I hope they play more Timewarp or some other show instead of the 80s music
