Jim Reid was a major part of the original CFNY-FM 102.1 The Spirit Of Radio, thoughout the eighties. He held down the midday slot (10 AM to 2 PM) during CFNY's most important era. He and James Scott (who also put on his wings some time back) would often present wonderful personality bits during their daily cross over.

Last Friday Jim left us. A talented and kind person, plus a model for midday - Jim shall live on in our ears for a very long time.

Prediction - within the decade ahead everything will be streaming. Watch how the current OTA channels continuously promote they on line channels. Crave - Gem etc are only the beginning. OTA will be gone.

Already you will find most networks (world-wide) provide streamed (ROKU etc) major network programming.

If anything stays OTA/cable it will be local news in each city. And BTW - most ISP companies are moving away from phone lines.  Most now are going to the old fashioned cable.  I think they are calling it fibre.

As most know there was an electricty black out in Toronto Thursday evening. Seems it was caused by a racoon.

Im here to tell you that racoon was just jealous. How does a day get named after a Groundhog and us racoons get nothing. Well I'll show you - said the racoon as they laughed at all the folks caught in the black-out.

Yeah Yeah - I know........................

My CHLO AM was on 680. About a million years ago.

But I did invent a character who spoke 700 words a minute while I was there. I also remember leaving the studio one night to pull the 11 PM newscasts.

There at the back door to the building stood a kid just a little younger than me. I asked him what he wanted. He said "How do I get into radio?" Come in here while I read the news. The control room was small. I rolled a religious program that ran at 11 PM.

I told him my story and that CHLO 680 was my second radio job. We talked a while. He became the guy who was answering my phone calls. Back then all the lines were ringing constantly. We talked a bunch more over the weeks/months to come. I could tell this guy loved the idea of radio and being part of it. As did I.

Then I left for CKEY. But before I left the owner and I had a chat. I suggested he keep that "kid" around cause he really loves radio and he could be very valuable in the days and months ahead.

Then I took off for Toronto.

Oh that Kid? His name was and is Paul Ski.

And then there was Kevin OLeary, Producer of the Pete & Geets show, on the front page of the Toronto Sun riding the ferris wheel and beating all the old records. (I hae a pic of that Toronto Sun but can't find it - ooops)

Sue was an important part of my TV Show - pilot 1 - CBC Net. We did the show in Vancouver but Sue did her segment from her home in Toronto. It was her first exposure to TV and she won everyone over.

I remember one bit she did where I about ran over to English Bay and just kept running into the sea.

Sue opened the bit - "this week we're going to talk about female masturbation." As she spoke those words she walked into her home kitchen. Opening the fridge door and just as the "female masturbation" words were spoken, she took the biggest greenest cucumber from her fridge. Handling it very carefully and somewhat seductively....

She carried on from there. Good Night dear Sue. And Godspeed!

Listeners of CFNY-FM during the 80's will remember those two writers from this song.....

I don't know if this fits where this thread is going. However here's a short story.

The 102 station was gaining an important position within the Toronto market. The Allen Brothers approached the CRTC about getting a station. The CRTC granted it at 102.1.

The Allen Brothers then called it CFNY. Get it - CFNY! Yes - that NY.

I remember in the basement of the Little Yellow House there we scores of boxes all containing the stickers that at the time were used to promote New York State. I don't recall if any of them were ever used.

They looked like this....

I often find podcasts too disorganized with hosts that talk and ramble too much.  But listening to you and Ted was interesting all the way through.  Congrats and it sounded like Ted was enjoying himself as well.
