It may not surprise you that the only place I've ever heard him advertise on a regular basis is the one station where he's currently on air. His spots stopped when he left CFRB, began again on 640 when he did a show there and stopped when he departed.
So yes, he advertises regularly on Sauga960. I haven't heard his shilling anywhere else.
He shills on 960? That would explain why I never hear them. Merry Christmas, RadioActive. Thanks for all you do.

The only people who might bother to call will be irate customers, based on Omni's on-line reviews. Jack's ads were as ubiquitous, and annoying, as Spence and Alpine Credit back in the day. I haven't heard one of his spots for years. Is he still in business?

Don't entirely disagree but I heard a promo for him on Monday night. He's in Tuesday, taking Wednesday (Christmas) off and will be back live on Thursday and Friday. Nice to know there will be some live programming on the station after Dec. 25th. That's not what they did in the past.
Agreed. Any live voice during the Christmas dead zone is better than reruns, and lousy holiday music. At least CFRB put a merciful end to those syrupy 'It's Beginning to Look A Lot like Christmas' fillers a while back.

640 had stale re-runs on Monday. 1010 had Mark Towhey live, subbing for the dull and duller Hutton and Richards. First time I've listened to 4 hours straight of CFRB in years. It was great.

1010 could just do 'Best Of 2024' shows for Agar, Hutton and Richards. Sadly, they wouldn't fill a complete hour of air time.

As a regular trivia show listener, and frequent prize winner, I'm glad all you geniuses won't stoop low enough to call in and try your luck. The free meals, shopping and gas cards and show tickets are nice once in awhile. And hearing the really stupid answers or non-answers can be great fun. To each their own.
But you're right about many callers to that show, and pretty much all other radio shows, asking the host how they are. Really tiresome. I also resisted giving Richard Crouse a cold remedy.
I’m with you dieter, I like winning stuff too, and I find the show entertaining. I find people who knock things generally speaking are envious of those who enjoy it, real wallys!
You can toast each other with those large Double-Doubles you worked so hard to achieve. Hopefully, there's enough left on the gift card to enjoy a tasty festive cruller, too. Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night!

The other yakkers on what's left of CFRB are pretty right wing compared to Moore, who is kind of the Toronto Star of radio hosts, fair, but left-leaning. He fits into Chow's downtown 'Champagne Socialist' target demographic. No surprise she would feel more comfortable sitting down with him. Don't hold your breath waiting for Chow to ever show up on 640, or at a Jewish event.

Your long suffering appears to be at an end! They've replaced this spot with a brand new one in which the announcer actually says it properly. It's enough to drive you to drink - and not just a "Pini Colada."
Yes, I've heard it several times. The exact same copy, but a less dorky voice. I still think it sounds too much like Pini Colada, but it's an improvement. Christmas miracles really do happen sometimes.

Actually Walter, it was more of a Boxing Day miracle as part of the prize were tickets to see the Marlies at the ScotiaBank centre. I took my son and a couple of his pals, all but one came from single parent families. None had ever been to the ScotiaBank centre or a pro hockey game of any type, so that was a good prize pack not only for me! The seats were amazing and the lads had a blast!
God bless us, everyone!

I used to hate those stupid Canadian tire ads that help you spend like Santa but save like Scrooge.
They ran for years and I always thought they made no sense because at the end of a Christmas Carol Scrooge is converted to a kind and generous benefactor, so there is no more miserly Scrooge.
Now I am driven up the wall by the Wal Mart Christmas ads that feature for no apparent reason a plump Asian guy playing an elf.
When the other guy guy dresses like a Christmas tree and scares the middle aged white couple the Asian guy elf admonishes him "That's a bit much."
That's apparently supposed to be amusing.
It's just kind of weird.
There's a couple more ads with these two characters and they are just strange and awkward.
And why does every home cleaning ad these days feature a single young black man obsessing over the spotlessness of his upper-middle class home or condo? Is that really their target market?

You can't be serious.
In his heyday he was a funny and clever guy but as the years went by he became a sort of bitter right wing bore, no longer funny, then just a shill for some restaurant owner of a local musician that nobody's ever heard of.
Ever catch his stand-up act back in the day? He was never funny. Never found a free restaurant lunch he didn't love, either. No, I wasn't serious.

Did Corus also fire the person or persons who puts up their daily podcasts of AM640 shows? There was a segment on Alex Pierson's program that I really wanted to hear on Tuesday, but missed it.
Normally, you can find it online within a few hours. But the most recent Pierson airchecks are from Nov. 29th. Nothing new since.
A quick look through their other shows also indicates there's nothing at all from this week - and it's already Wednesday. A shame if they've stopped posting this content. Sometimes it comes in handy.
They edited out all the parts where she interrupts and talks over guests, and there was nothing left.

I didn't think it was actually possible, but there's a spot currently running on nearly every radio station that's worse than Spence. And it's only because of how it starts.
I'm talking about the endlessly repeated commercial for The Lion King, that starts with that singer screaming a single unbelievably long and ear splitting note. I realize it's from the play and is perhaps part of African culture. But when I'm out walking the dog and that thing comes blasting into both ears, it instantly gives me a headache.
Every. Single. Damn. Time.
And it would seem there's no avoiding it.
It is the radio equivalent of fingernails on a blackboard to me. At least with Spence and Tom's Place, you have a small amount of warning and can quickly tune it out. This thing does not give you the chance because it goes off like an alarm clock when you least expect it and lasts an agonizing 5 secs. or longer.
I have rarely encountered anything so irritating on the radio. Or should that be ear-itating?
Agreed. It is extremely annoying. Just about had enough of the non-stop 'Refuge' ads, as well, but as someone who has had his share of birthday cakes and Christmas presents, I guess I can't relate.

Speaking of curious, still no immediate word on who will be hosting Toronto This Weekend, the 7- 10 AM show on Saturday and Sunday. Mulroney was the regular host. He's obviously not going to be working seven days a week. It will be interesting to hear if the show is still on, whether it's replaced with rerolls and if not, who's in that chair.
Radio vet Christine Cardoso has subbed before. Could she get the gig permanently? Should be an interesting game of musical chairs (or on a talk station, non-musical chairs) over the next few days.Turns out the answer is, in fact, Anthony Furey, who appears to have been named the new permanent weekend show host. Whether this means he's no longer available for fill-in elsewhere remains to be seen. Same regular weekly
guests as when Mulroney was there, which gets kind of tiresome.
How many times does one really need to hear from Glenn Crouter?
