Not the best news. I read the article and it doesn’t mention how Strombo ended up with concussion, unless I skipped something. I also think George looks a little rough in the photos, dark rings under his eyes etc. but seems to be keeping it together. Liked him as host on The NewMusic year back!

Hilarious - could you imagine the outrage? The Beatles had already disbanded when John and George died. The Who were still active when Keith Moon died, and were on the eve of a(nother farewell) tour when Entwhistle died.

That difference alone is why Paul, Ringo and two other stand-ins could never assume the name The Beatles.

I actually could imagine the outrage, good response Binson Echorec!

I have watched this show and was pleasantly surprised, it has a good vibe to it and a slice of Canada you don’t often see, especially in a sitcom format.

I enjoyed St.Denis Medical, which was new this season. I like the mockumentary style sitcom and this one is from Justin Spitzer, who also did Superstore and the short lived American Auto. I read yesterday that there will be a second season, so something for me to look forward to!

Now with all due respect RA, this is a political discussion ... if you want to post jokes like that, I'm sure there are plenty of other places on the internet where you can do so.

This post made my morning, both very silly, well done!

I'm calling this one early - after tuning around for a few hours, I have no doubt CTV did the best job, had the best pundits and featured the best and easiest-to-follow graphics. Tough to beat Vassy Kapelos on any day, but she was great on Monday night. Her regular "Question Period" panel of Scott Reid, Kory Teneycke and Kathleen Monk, along with ex-NDP leader Thomas Mulcair were tough to beat.

They also seemed to have the most sets and maps and the best explanation of what was was going on.

In second place? Believe it or not, I'd give it to City TV. The reason? They were the only station that was focused almost exclusively on the GTA.

I didn't like the CBC's graphics or guests all that much, and I admit I barely had time to check out Global. But for the most part, CTV got my vote.

I agree that CTV had the best all around elections coverage, much more engaging than the CBC’s, which was fairly basic. I did catch a bit of Citytv’s coverage and as RadioActive pointed out, it was local coverage only and pretty well done! Interesting results BTW.

Mark Carney pledged to not only continue funding the CBC, but to also boost its budget by $150 million.

Will that result in more extended or better programming? If he delivers on that pledge, it will be interesting to see where that money will be spent and if viewers and listeners will notice. An expansion of news programming was one of the areas it appears that extra dough could be used.

Knowing the CBC, they just hire more to their already bloated ranks!

Yet they chintz out when it comes to decent coverage as the play-by-play uses a monitor. This same company just dropped $11 billion for another NHL deal, so they must have a few shekels. Maybe get out of radio if you can’t offer a decent service. God they annoy me!

So here's to the hard-working producers who rarely get their due beyond an end-of-show name mention. If they do their jobs right, chances are you'll never know it.  [/color]

Nicely put RA, they’re the broadcast backbone but are rarely acknowledged, and there are some really good ones in our market, hats off to them!

I find the Point S commercial a bit disturbing as when I was a kid, one of my classmates stuttered, not always but with certain sounds and the “P” sound was probably his worse, and would go on a bit. Even as kids we knew not to tease him about it, he was a decent guy. Apparently his stutter improve as he got older, but we could tell it embarrassed him as a kid. So I quickly change stations when I hear the “P-P-P” machine starting up!

Footnote, what’s with all the bad commercials of late?? Some really terrible creative out there!

Like Sean Ross, I too enjoy AM740, but I think one of my main reasons is that they put great effort into their weekend programming. They produce quite the cross section of original material, ranging from a gardening show to “the immortals” of music. Most AM stations in this market fill their weekends with re-rolls, which is fine if you haven’t heard it before, but seems like a cop out to me.
Good article, thanks for posting RA.

The non-Rogers version of City TV that I remember would have covered this.

100% RadioActive, and that was because the non-Rogers Citytv cared about their service to the community, remember their “Toronto Television” slogan? I bet they would have provided debate coverage even if they weren’t OTA as Znaimer actually cared about Toronto and felt his station had an obligation to the public.

Rogers, on the other hand, have no sense of commitment to their viewers, just the bottom line. Their news is the weakest of the locals and it shows that it doesn’t matter to them, just a contractual obligation. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t cover election night. Sad that, they once mattered, and actually cared.

It's been a while since I enjoyed an "Under The Influence" like this one. On this week's episode, adman Terry O'Reilly plays mistakes in the message, with people screwing up both live on air (including Johnny Carson) and behind the scenes (Orson Welles and Gary Owens.)

As often happens, it's what you were never supposed to hear that winds up being the most entertaining part of any spot.

You can catch the outtakes story on CBC Radio 1 Saturday morning at 11:30 AM or listen to it now.

Caught this yesterday, very entertaining episode! I try to catch Under the Influence usually on Saturday morning, just after errands! William Shatner’s bit was pretty good as well as Orson Welles’.
