Re the OP: CJED(105.1 the River)in the Niagara region has used AI during overnights. I'm not sure if CKEY(101.1 More FM)does the same.

Former CHCH-TV anchor/reporter(and, on occasion, talk show host)Donna Skelly has been elected as the first female speaker of the Ontario Legislature. The MPP, representing Flamborough-Glanbrook, replaces Ted Arnott-who retired from that post after serving as Speaker for 7 years.

Dean Blundell, no stranger to controversy he, posted this to social media: "A lot of DMs from people who worked with Greg Brady who are ready to talk about what a nefarious(jerk)he is. Including family. If anyone in the Liberal party wants details, happy to help. He's human garbage."

I had to clean it up a bit and leave out the last paragraph, for reasons of good taste. But safe to say, Dean's not a fan of Greg.

I have a better question: Why hasn't, say, Channel Zero made a proposal to the CRTC to create a classic TV network in the style of Antenna TV, Cozi TV or MeTV? Keep in mind that most of the daytime schedule at CHCH-TV consists of classic TV shows. Instead of WHINING about it, get in on the action!

I wonder who's going to be the Dave Agar of KFI(or, as Tom Leykis has referred to the station in the past, KKKFI)-you know, the one who was INCREDIBLY bent when CFRB's newsroom was just as gutted and demanded that the station take his name off the newsroom.

Doubt it, long as they don't start playing Van Halen or Rush. There was a brief period I remember hearing Guns N' Roses and Metallica on Edge.

Metallica gets into the playlist at Buffalo's WEDG(the OTHER Edge)on occasion.

From what ND Greg O'Brien said in the brief video, whoever it was that passed away was a beloved member of the newsroom staff.

It should be noted that CHCH isn't the ONLY TV station in the area turning 70 this year. WGRZ(ch. 2)in Buffalo signed on the air August 14, 1954...becoming Buffalo's third TV station(WBUF-TV(ch. 17, now WNED-TV)was the actual second TV station in Buffalo).

They were later in trouble for 2Day FM being only one station on 105.1 and 101.1, but that's another story.

As for American stations, they always had a strict rule for YEARS that if You're not American, you couldn't own a station, but you were always free to rent it.  Renting was never a problem. This is very old information though, from several years ago.

 

A couple of years after Byrnes Communications bought 101.1 and 105.1, they entered into a sales partnership with Radio One Buffalo(which owns WECK)to help sell advertising in Buffalo for both stations.

And it's interesting to see that part of the station's opening staff is someone who's been in Niagara-area radio for quite a while. Corey Mottley, who was doing wake-up duty on CJED(105.1 the River), draws PM drive.

More than likely; on Friday morning only WIVB-TV in Buffalo was able to do a regular morning newscast. WKBW-TV was forced to switch to the Facebook Live stream as a replacement for Good Monring Buffalo. WGRZ's Daybreak was similarly sidelined.

And these numbers are for the new WTSS on 96.1, not what's now WBKV on 102.5. WBKV may account for a few of those missing ratings points all by itself.

That is a very big "MAY", since EMF doesn't pay for ratings.

Aaron: The ONLY stations that show up with any regularity in the ratings are CFLZ(101.1 More FM)and CJED(105.1 the River)...and even then not in every book.
