The seder snafu is just another example of the lax state of broadcast training nowadays.
Once upon a time if you wanted to be a professional newsreader, you had bosses who would correct you... or at least hold announcer meetings to discuss things like names and words that are going to crop up, so you'd know in advance to pronounce them properly.
The CBC had the most rigorous training.
I've made the comparison before... what if you went to a doctor who said, "blood pressure?  I really am not sure how to do that." And as for this stethoscope..."
And speaking of Jewish mispronunciations, another common one is bah-NYE Brith instead of Bah-NAY Brith.

Turkeytop,
I grew up in Vancouver where we have the suburb, New Westminster.
Yes, it was often called New  Westminister.
And that was by radio announcers who lived there.

Frum may be writing now for a so-called "leftist" publication, but as mentioned above he was Bush's speech writer
Although he did not write the famous "axis of evil" line and he has admitted that.
Also as g121 notes sometimes there really is no other side to an argument.
Although Donald Trump did say there were "very fine people" among the neo Nazi protesters in Charlottesville.

I worked briefly in Windsor, and was shocked to discover local pronunciations.
Windsor's main street, Pierre, is pronounced PEER-ee.
I spoke to a city police sergeant whose name was Langlois, except he told me it was pronounced LANG-loyz.
There are similar agonizing anglo pronunciations in Toronto, like RON-sez-Vales for Roncesvalles.
Also AY-jin-kort for Agincourt.
Coming from BC where we don't even speak French all that much we would pronouce these rons-VALL and AH-zhen-koor

No, not at all a one-off.
Millennial and gen Z announcers are notorious for lax pronunciation and enunciation.
It just really isn't taught anymore.
Hearing a news announcer with bad pronunciation is like if you went to see your doctor and he or she told you they really never learned how to take blood pressure.
Or if you called the CAA and they arrived and said they were not sure how to change a tire.
In broadcasting that means you have supposedly professional announcers saying Blur Street, or for that matter Eggelton Avenue, which I have also heard.
When I first came to Toronto in the 80s I was confused when I heard traffic reports where the announcer would talk about the "corn collectors."
It took me a while to realize they were talking about the "core and collectors," referring to highway lanes.
Nowadays I roll my eyes as I drive alone when the radio announcer tells me there's a stawed veekle on the DVP.
(stalled vehicle.)

I tend to think about the CBC more in terms of news rather than entertainment programming.
And, as a mainly radio news journalist I applaud my CBC colleagues who I have worked with over many years.
Some of the finest reporters I know are CBC reporters -- absolutely excellent.
I have never once heard a CBC reporter (and we reporters do talk among ourselves about our workplaces) say, "Oh gosh my bosses have told me to have this or that bias, or my editor won't let me file that story because it does not fit the CBC political philosophy)... never.
I have never worked for the CBC so I have no bias opinion of them either.
Also it makes me laugh when I hear that old worn out complaint that the CBC get 1.3 billion dollars from the federal government.
Remember that is whether it is a Liberal government or Conservative, or if it ever happened NDP.
As for TV entertainment programming yeah I wish it was better...
But quite frankly Canada has never had much money to mount slick big budget TV shows.
To me the CBC's greatest strength has always been news and information to bind Canadians together.

A while back I jokingly wrote about how radio was playing the Spence ad where Sarah has a phone call from Japan with Fiona.  At the same time a GOT Junk ad was playing, featuring Sarah again -- but this time answering the phone in Toronto to talk to a woman about cleaning up her garage.
How could Sarah be both in Toronto and Japan at the same time?
As I said I was just being silly -- but low and behold, recently the intro to the GOT JUNK ad was chopped to take out Sarah answering the phone. Now when you hear it it stars with the woman talking about how much junk she has, and Sarah's voice is there, but she is no longer identified.
Now that ad is playing right next to the Spence ad where Fiona and Sarah are still talking on the phone with Sarah still in Japan.
Like I said, I was joking before but it seems someone did notice that Sarah was identifying herself on the GOT JUNK ad and now her name is chopped out.
Oh, and BTW, yes I can't stand that stupid, "a little more" ad.  In fact I could not tell what the ad was for until I really listened on purpose.
And yes that bloody "I'll be by your side" Desjardins song is really annoying, especially since it is obviously a Randy Newman imitation a la "You've got a friend in me" from Toy Story.
But what really gets me that they've brought back that blasted "Kars For Kids" song  AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

There are notable movie cliff hangers too.
2001 Planet of the Apes with Mark Wahlberg.
The movie ends with Wahlberg's character travelling back in time from the Ape ruled earth only to find that back in the present the Apes were still in charge of Earth.
The sequel was supposed to explain how that was possible but lousy reviews resulted in no second try by Tim Burton.
1969 The Italian Job.
The movie ends with the bus containing all the loot was literally left hanging from a cliff.
Will it tip over?  will the thieves manage to save the day?
There was supposed to be a sequel but it all fell apart.

Casablanca.
Although the ending of the classic movie does have an ending of sorts,  (Rick and Louie walking off into the night to start a "beautiful friendship") There was supposed to be a sequel called Brazaville.
But it too fell apart so we'll never see the further adventures of Rick and Louie or even Ilsa and Victor.

Back to TV again... there was no cliffhanger as such but whatever happened to Jeannie and Tony?
Did the astronaut ever marry the magic lady?
Did he live happily ever after with her still in the bottle?

OK, just let me toss my hat in the ring here.
For some reason news writers like to use sports and boxing analogies.
In Canada they use hockey references as though each time they are original and nobody's ever thought of them before.
For that the need to spend time in the penalty box.
They are after all skating on thin ice.

If you like Tracker you might want to check out a French series called The Traveller.  But you will have to subscribe to streamer MHZ Choice and Topic to get it.
I would recommend that anyway since the European streamer has amazing shows and movies from all over the world.
The Traveler is about a brilliant national police inspector who becomes disillusioned with the police and decides to take a leave by driving around France in a house van, and his dog, seeking out serious crimes in places where small police forces can't cope with them.
It seems everyone knows him because of his reputation as a master investigator.
The shows are full movie length, 90 minutes.

Movies and TV shows pretty well never get actual radio right... or TV for that matter.
Even the legendary WKRP did not portray radio accurately.
Think of the scenes where a DJ like Johnny Fever would intro a song and then turn the pot down and have a ten-minute conversation with one of the other characters.

I am enjoying watching "Tracker" in a sort of guilty pleasure way.
It is good mindless entertainment, and it tells its stories in small 50 minute bites.
I watch on Bell On Demand.
But I do realize the scripts are absurd
The hero, Colter Shaw, seems to be a master of all things.  He's never wrong.
He seems to be able to fight and easily defeat bad guys with guns.
He also walks onto crime scenes where actual police officers, gruffly ask "who are you" and he gives some vague answer about being a missing persons expert and the cops say, "oh, well, that's OK then."
Or his client tells police, "it's OK officer he works for me."
I wish I could have had that kind of experience when I covered crime stories as a reporter.
"It's OK officer I'm a crime beat reporter, just tell me everything."
"You got it, sir."

L and O Toronto has been pretty bad in its first four episodes IMHO.
But the last two have been quite good.
The one about the luxury car jacking ring was well researched.
The bread scandal episode was also well written.
Yes I noticed the "Skip Mobile" pay phone sequence, mainly because I know of no Toronto pay phone that is not labelled as Bell.
Also have you noticed that the Toronto police arm patches and cop car logos are not authentic.
I wonder if there is some legal reason for that.

I enjoy watching the summer Olympics, not all events but a good number of them.
Don't tell me that watching Ben Johnson win the 100 metres (and then infamously lose it) wasn't thrilling TV.
Also watching runners like FloJo, or for real oldsters, gymnast Nadia Comineci.
In general I like to see incredible athletes doing things like break HI jump records, or weight lifting feats.
Swimming championships are also pretty amazing like Ian Thorpe or Canada's Mark Tewkbury.or Penny Oleksiak.
I've also done my share reporting on Olympic class athletes, watching them train here in Canada.
I remember once covering some Canadian Olympic runners in person, and watching them streak past you as you stand on the track is amazingly impressive.
and yes, we all know the IOC is rife with corruption, and we all wish that were not so.
But then many Canadians cheer on professional sports teams whose ownership and management is also riddled with corruption.

The first record I ever "bought" was actually not bought by me, but by my mother.
However it was the first time I went to a record store and asked for a record.

It was on a 45.
Growing up in Vancouver we had several great record stores, including A and B records, Sight and Sound and even the record section of the downtown Hudson's Bay was very large and comprehensive.

These days I don't watch much mainstream TV.  I have a few streaming services and I watch a few regular TV shows using Bell On Demand.

Blair never gave a proper answer and Paxman eventually just ended the interview rather than go for a 20th attempt.

It's not strictly radio, although it did get a low of radio news coverage at the time.
Netflix has released the doc, "What Jennifer Did," about the bizarre murder of the parents of a Canadian-Vietnamese girl north of Toronto.  It tells the story of a young Canadian woman and her alleged plot to kill her parents. The documentary opens on the alarming 2010 emergency call Pan placed to the police after her mother was fatally shot to death and her father critically injured in their home.
After a lengthy investigation police discovered Jennifer hired hit men to kill her parents who would not let her see her boyfriend who they thought was not good enough for her.

Very well done doc with real footage of the police interrogations.

Just to follow up on RA's cartoon comment, I don't remember US stations showing cartoons on their Thanksgiving, but I do remember when the new season of cartoons premiered, usually in the fall.
I used to wake up at about 6 am to watch the new cartoons on Saturday as they debuted.
Some of them were the cartoon version of Star Trek, the Beatles, Space Ghost, and of course Spider Man which was voiced by Canadian actor Paul Soles.
Later, when I was a bit older I watched Rocket Robin Hood, which was also a Canadian creation, and rather odd. It was actually quite adult in it concepts as it still was aimed at kids.

Gosh, there's a whole bunch.
Like you I was a big Sea Hunt fan and I grew up in Vancouver where the show was shot in Seattle nearby.
I was determined to become a scuba diver, and I took lessons but alas I had terrible sinus problems and could not tolerate diving undersea.
By far, though, Star Trek was by big favourite, and one of the first shows I got to see on my parent's new colour TV.
Then there was The Man From Uncle, The Wild, Wild West, The real Avengers with Patrick McKnee and Diana Rigg, not the Marvel comics.
Of course The Twilight Zone.
I was also a fan of The Smothers Brothers, and of course. Rowan and Martin's Laugh In.

I.ve seen a few episodes and it's a pretty good cop action drama show, so there you go.

One of my early radio news jobs was at CKDA in Victoria.
It played top 40 rock and had a weird rock and roll news format.
First of all the newscast was at quarter to the hour.  The idea was our news would always be first.
Then we would do the news without saying who the speaker on a clip was.  A voice would just start talking with no intro.
The idea there was that it was a waste of time to say things like, "John Smith the president of X company had this to say."
It was weird, but our newscasts were actually quite popular.
