Without getting into the merits or lack of them for the man himself, I wonder if over-the-air networks like CTV, Global and City TV will interrupt regular programming if the Prime Minister announces his resignation on Monday?
The all news channels will no doubt be providing wall-to-wall non-stop coverage, but what about CFTO? Would they break into a show already in progress for this news? (The resignation of a P.M. is a rare and pretty momentous event. They shouldn't wait to tell viewers about it.)
Would Global potentially piss off viewers by not showing all of The Young & The Restless?
I'm pretty sure CBLT would have special coverage. The others? My sense tells me they absolutely should put this on as a bulletin. But the interests of running ads in the middle of a commercial TV show may usurp that responsibility.
Depending on what happens, I guess we'll see. (Or perhaps, won't see until the 5 PM news.)

Just in (or should that be Justin?) Announcement and presser coming at 10:45 AM, so I guess we'll get the answer then.

For sure CTV and CBC will.
mMaybe global but probably not city.
Rogers will want you to stream it and City is more entertainment focused unlike the other networks, primarily CBC and CTV which are very news hevvy with very big and popular national newscasts

I would think some will interrupt regular programming for this, but most people will be tuning in CBC News Network (who broke the story for the 10:45 press conference), CTV News Channel and CP24 for more complete coverage and analysis. CBC Toronto as mentioned will cover it with CBC News Network coverage.
Should be another interesting Monday in Ottawa..

Out west Global is still in local news by the time the PM is set to start his press conference, so they should be covering this on the local level.
Hopefully, the rest of the Global network will break in...

That don't confront me,
Long as I get my 'Price is Right'.

CBLT and CFTO have live coverage (via a simulcast of their news channels.) The latter has lead anchor Omar Sachedina and political expert Vassy Kapelos doing commentary. (Which likely means she won't be doing her national radio talk show at noon.)
Global is continuing their broadcast of the Tamron Hall talk show and City remains in regular programming. CHCH, TVO and the OMNIs are all not taking it, which does not surprise me.
Meanwhile, Jerry Agar on CFRB is rightly bitching that the news conference, scheduled for 10:45 AM, is late. He wonders, as I often have, why these things involving politicians, never seem to start on time. As someone in the news business who's at the mercy of a rigid clock, it's always been a pet peeve of mine.

I hope he mentions the fact that his resignation only comes in light of years of a massive online misinformation campaign against him by both the Russians and right-wing "alternate media" influencers (paid by the Russians). People really don't understand how much Putin has targeted democratic countries to trick gullible people into voting against their own best interests. Kiss all your social programs goodbye under Poilievre and enjoy retiring at age 67, idiots. PP will cut your CPP contribution under the pretense of letting you "keep more of your money" but really it's to save employers millions in having to match those contributions, and you get to retire on less.
I don't blame Trudeau for resigning, after a while you get fed up with the stupidity of the folks that you serve. I hope he just enjoys a happy life once this is over for him and he can win back his wife.
Online!
By the way, shame on both CFRB and AM640 for not having an interpreter ready for when he broke into French, as they surely knew he would. 640 just let the Francais go by with no translation, while CFRB went back to its hosts to talk about what they'd just heard, jumping back into the speech when it reverted to English.
That was terrible on both their parts.
The usual suspects all carried the speech - CKTB, CFIQ, CFRB, CKGL and CBC Radio 1. What was really surprising as I tuned around the dial was who else had it - WTOR, the ethnic station at 770 AM from Youngstown, New York was also broadcasting the speech. I'm not sure where they were taking the feed from. An interesting choice but not one I ever would have expected to be on the list.

I'd like to keep this to radio and TV, if possible, although I was pretty sure this was inevitable. There are a million places to discuss the man's place in history. A gentle reminder that this is a radio and TV forum, and not a political one. Thanks!

No surprise with city not taking the speach, they cair more about silly entertainment.
By the way, jerry is doing a great job on 1010.
He even had a liberal on.

Wtor should of had their hosts translating it in Punjabi or Urdo for the new immigrants trudeau brot in.

Been tuning between 640 and 1010 all morning. I think they're all been very fair in the calibre of guests they've had from all sides of the political spectrum.
This is definitely a historic day. Not something you see often in Canada. I guess we know what will be the only subject on the talkers for the rest of the day and beyond!

1010 is mostly fair, but surprised about 640.
CFIQ is more far right to me.
Agar is right-centre

They didn't take their respective tv feeds where an interpreter may have been available? At least 'RB mitigated it by coming back to the host. There's no chance either station has an interpreter on hand lol.

CTV News channel on CFTO.
No local CTV Toronto news @ Noon.

Little KOZT in Ft. Bragg, Ca. has been mentioning the Trudeau resignation in their morning drive newscasts.

Disappointing that Global didn't break across the network for the PM's address. Global BC was on air and they were covering it live and they had their political reporter on standby.
Why didn't Global put their BC station on across the network for this?

Both BBC and CNN had Trudeau's announcement on live this morning. Paula Newton broke the story on CNN around 10:20 this morning, about half an hour after CBC News Network. Fox News also covered the press conference.

Its nice when 2 American news/talk channels report on Canadian news.

What really bothered me is that after Global BC’s Morning News ended at 9am PT, they went to Global’s Morning Show, which was obviously pre-recorded and the hosts were speculating what Trudeau was going to do today as well as saying he was going to hold a press conference at 10:45. They could at least have done an updated version for the west coast, or kept the local show on air for another hour or even simulcast BC1.

I was away from my television but what time did CFTO and CBC Toronto TV go back to their regular programming ?

I didn't watch through the whole thing but CBC and CTV both went at least an hour at noon. (As noted, no local newscast on CFTO. They used CTV News Channel instead.)

I noticed that the Conservatives chose to release a video instead of holding a press conference. That's clever, as news programs are forced to air the video as is, and reporters are denied the opportunity to ask Pollieve any difficult questions. An excellent way to control the message through the media.

He's better than trump.
He's how a real conservitive should be.
Some of the far-left media would have called him a racist for not letting more Immigrants than we can handle.

Remember they got the CityNews channel now. The OTA channel can continue airing shows while the CityNews channel covers breaking news on there.

Well, CTV and CBC allways had news channels but they still have news ota.
I think a responsible network should still have news programing.
