White Christmas {Not The Song}

It is now a week before Christmas and soon all our local weather presenters/ meterologists will begin predicting/guessing/pontificating as to whether Toronto will have a White Christmas. I did some research and according to Environment Canada, Toronto had  17 snowless Christmas Days between 1955 and 1988. Another 22 between 1989 and 2023. A total of 39 non white Christmas Days in 69 years. An official White Christmas is at least 2 cm of snow on the ground at 7am on December 25th. A "Perfect Christmas" contains the same requirements as above with the addition of snow falling.

Re: White Christmas {Not The Song}

I'm not dreaming of a white Christmas.
I remember one year where Christmas temperatures were in the low double digits above zero.
It was glorious.

Re: White Christmas {Not The Song}

Without meaning to be The Grinch, this is a very sore subject with me. If I had a time machine, I would go back and stop Irving Berlin from ever writing this awful bit of doggerel.

I may have to turn in my Canadian card, but I despise snow and - unless you're a skier or a professional plower, I can't see any good reason people would want something that gets in the way of almost everything to be there on Dec. 25th.

I've had tons of arguments with people in the stations I've worked at about this, whose only reply is "It's pretty!"

Yes, it's pretty but it gums up the roads in every city and makes driving dangerous
Yes, it's pretty but it can lead to heart attacks and even death from people trying to shovel it away.
Yes, it's pretty but it costs taxpayers millions of dollars a year trying to get rid of it.
Yes, it's pretty but it eats away at your shoes and clothing, ruining both of them.
Yes, it's pretty but all that salt needed to neutralize it eventually starts destroying your car
And yes, it's pretty but it doesn't stay that way and eventually turns into a hard iced ball of blackness you can't get rid of until spring.

Give me a green Christmas every year!

And by the way, the only song worse is the execrable "Let It Snow," in which some selfish dolt decides that because he and his significant other have nowhere to go, the rest of us should be thoroughly inconvenienced by a blizzard. How selfish!

The real lyrics should be:

"Oh the weather outside is frightful,
And it's far from being delightful,
So before we get more of this slop,
Make It stop, make it stop, make it stop!"

Merry Christmas to all and to all, a Green Xmas!

Now back to your regular radio topics already in progress...

Re: White Christmas {Not The Song}

Anyone wanting to see snow for Christmas simply has to travel north from the GTA . I'm sure the residents of Barrie through Parry Sound and over to Huntsville back to Orillia would be happy to share. Just bring a shovel.

Re: White Christmas {Not The Song}

Cannot stand the white stuff. In keeping with RadioActive’s post, “Yes it’s pretty, pretty annoying”. The only good thing about snow is that it’s gone by Spring, usually. Now I ‘m going out to shovel, dang!
