How An NHL Play-By-Play Broadcaster Prepares For A Game

It's a lot more than just sitting down and calling the action. There's a lot of prep involved and an announcer often plans where and when to place a story they've gotten directly from a player. Then there's the issue of how to say a guy's name properly. (Just how do you pronounce Mukhamadullin, anyway?)

The Athletic spent the day with St. Louis Blues announcer John Kelly (son of the late Blues veteran broadcaster Dan Kelly) to see what it takes to be ready when the puck drops.
