I'm not sure how many people here have ever heard of a terrific FX cable comedy series called "What We Do In The Shadows." It was a hilarious show about a group of inept vampires who want to take over the world from an old house on Staten Island. (Trust me, it was a lot better than it sounds.)
On Monday night, after six seasons on the air, the show aired its final episode. But the producers put in a stunning surprise most viewers probably missed. Towards the end of the episode, one of the vampires acknowledged that it was the finale and "hypnotized" viewers into believing it was the best episode ever. The episode ended 10 minutes later, after a bizarre 3-minute sketch.
In true cable TV fashion, the finale was repeated immediately after and shown again after that for those who may have missed it. I love what they did next.
"...if you watched the series finale’s first Monday-night airing... the three minutes that followed spoofed a certain piece of pop culture history.
But if you caught the 10:30 pm “rerun,” that used an alternate “perfect ending” segment that parodied something else entirely.
And if you watched the 11 pm “rerun,” it served up a second alternate version of viewers’ “perfect ending” that spoofed a third TV show/movie."
They never told the audience, and most people would not have watched the same episode three times in a row, so they missed it.
I believe this was shown on FX here in Canada, as well, so it's possible Canadians had no idea they were being had. But what an interesting way to go out.
I will really miss this show. It was unlike anything else on TV and it was absolutely hysterical every week. Because apparently, what they do in the shadows was laugh a lot!

I have never heard of this series probably because I rarely if ever watch anything on FX. The way you describe the show doesn't sound appealing to me, but I will take your word for it that it was a funny show.

Superb show. I highly recommend it. It's one of two shows that were spun off from the original 2014 film (the other being a NZ-based production called 'Wellington Paranormal').

The actors were great and so were the scripts. A rare, twisted and bizarre gem on broadcast or cable TV these days. I laughed through almost every episode. I will miss this show a lot.
