All politics aside, this is a huge story to kick off a Monday. Finance Minister Crystia Freeland has suddenly resigned on the eve of her economic update. To top this off, all of the premiers are meeting in Toronto today to discuss how to deal with upcoming tariffs from the US. Naturally CBC News Network, CTV News Channel, CP24 are all over these two big stories. A good day to stay in and watch what happens.
Also interesting that both CBC News Network and CTV News Channel are in the top 5 trending channels on my Bell Fibe. CBC is #2 and CTV #3.

Great reaction on the talk radio stations, too, with people who know what they're talking about analyzing this unprecedented situation. I'm not sure this has ever happened in Canadian history, where a Finance Minister resigned just hours away from a Fall Fiscal Update, leaving no one to read it.
An amazing news day and the radio stations are understandably jumping in with both feet. Jerry Agar, whatever your feeling about him, threw out his whole first hour (at least) to deal with this, a story that only broke at 9:07 AM, less than an hour from his airtime. Little prep time and still some fascinating radio. I can only imagine the producer frantically working the phones in a big hurry lining up guests.
That's the magic of the medium when it works.
On Monday, at least in the morning, it worked.

Vassy Kapelos is being held back, doing CTV News Channel, leaving political commentator Tim Powers to host her national show on radio. Understandable, but her expertise and presence are missed on the radio in the middle of one of the biggest political stories of the year.

Both CTV News Channel and CBC News Network are doing a great job with good commentary from pundits and hunting down other cabinet ministers for comments. Poilievre is speaking now and fibe is showing the top five all news channels. CP24, CBC News Net, CTV Toronto, CTV News Channel and CNN for the top 5.

Poilievre had a live statement and is now taking questions from the press and both AM640 and 1010 are not covering this??

Cialis or Viagra are available upon a doctor's prescription. There's also shady YouTube videos featuring AI generated celebrities hawking baking soda concoctions.

Both CBC and CTV news networks during the day really cut down on the commercial breaks. Both had long stretches with no interuptions since so much was happening quickly and their reporters were all over parliament hill. CTV News Network looks to be back to more normal programming as of 4:30. CP24 while giving this situation in Ottawa a lot of airtime, still had local GTA news all day long.

CTV News Channel is back to rolling coverage with Vassy Kapelos. They were airing the Atlantic edition of the CTV 5:30 National News before that.
Credit to CityNews 24/7, they've been cutting between live coverage and their regular news wheel, even got the swearing-in ceremony live. Can't say the same for Global's 24/7 news channel.

Not that it matters, but it is interesting to see who had the BREAKING NEWS first in the Freeland saga. The beauty of rewind on the PVR. I heard that the finance minister posted her resignation on X at 9:07am Monday. If anyone knows any different please correct me.
CP24 first had the story on their chyron at 9:11am but no commentary for a while
CTV News Channel broke the story at 9:15 and continued with other stories until 10am.
CBC News Network 9:15:20 and pretty much went wall to wall for the rest of the day.
I forgot to check CHCH and Global and unfortunately it is now too late. City BT didn't have the rewind feature for me on Monday morning.
