Giant FM and New Country 89.1 are located in Welland - although they're not exactly in a convenient place. So says My Broadcasting owner Jon Pole, who aims to move both of his stations from a relatively remote location to a more convenient spot somewhere in town.
Plans are underway to sell the current real estate and find another place to go, with updated studios and facilities more suited to 2024 than 1968, when the stations first moved there.
And it would be not only a necessary move but a historic one, as well.
"...a move into Welland’s urban area would represent a coming of full circle for the station, which began its life on June 4, 1957, when the former CHOW AM 1470 went live. Back then it operated out of a studio in downtown Welland on Division Street. It moved to its current location in 1968, as it needed the space to be able to boost its signal strength."

That article will help sell the property. Twenty acres of land and whatever the building is worth should bring in a bit of money. Would be a plus if the stations could return to Wellend. The two stations have lots of competing signals to contend with. I listen to Giant occasionally and it is a good classic rock station in my opinion.

I agree about Giant FM. Signal is excellent in the GTA. It is my go to station when Buffalo's 97Rock is unlistenable.

I actually went to visit the place 5-6 years ago? Google maps got me close but couldn't pinpoint the location at the time. I found that amusing!
