The hidden cost of cheap TV's
Saw this article this morning and thought it was worth sharing. It tells the story of how much viewing information (metadata) is obtained from users of the embedded apps now installed on most TV's sold today and the monetary value of that data. For those of you who don't tether your TV to your home Internet and only view broadcasts via OTA, you still have your privacy. That may not be the case though when ATSC 1.0 is eventually replaced by 3.0.

I have owned four television sets in my life. A 12" Zenith B&W in 1977. My first colour set came in 1991 which was a 20" Panasonic. It lasted 19 years and was replaced by a 40" Sony Bravia. For the last seven years I have had a Samsung 65" I don't think it is a totally smart tv. Yes it has Amazon Prime, Netflix etc built in and you can view content with the appropriate subscription. However, I don't think I could access the internet on it. I wouldn't know how to do that anyway. It does have Chromecast capability.
