Another Emergency Alert Test To Interrupt Ont. TV & Radio Next Week

It's scheduled on your phone, TV and radio at precisely 12:55 PM, on Wednesday, Nov. 20th. It's supposed to hit across the country, with one exception. For some reason, Quebec is not taking part in this test.

An emergency test alert will sound off devices in Ontario next week

Just a reminder that your phone, TV and radio will all be interrupted for this test at 12:55 PM Wednesday. This is all across Canada  - unless you live in Quebec, where for some reason there will be no test.

Got it on my phone, I'm with Freedom. Don't have either TV or radio on at the moment.

Well, it worked! I also got it on my phone, and on Sportsnet (through Teksavvy TV) a minute or two later.

It worked on my phone and my Amazon Echo which was playing 102.1 The Edge. I wonder if there were any fails on the TV side.

I got it in my car and on the phone.
But I was out doing some errands in the car and had left the phone at home.
When I got home the first thing I heard was the damn alarm.
If you are not there to shut it off it just keeps going on forever on the phone until you cancel it.
What a stupid idea.

I also learned today that the exclamation notification on the top of your phone doesn't disappear until you click on the ok button on the actual alert. Guess I wasn't too alert when it popped up in the middle of my tweeting...

Yup. My phone buzzed at precisely the scheduled time. My television was off then.

Which asks the question, why were cell phones not alerting on the evening of Sunday Nov. 10th when there was the tornado / weather alert issued by Environment Canada for Caledon, Brampton and Peel (which is really like Peel without Mississauga, but that is for another discussion)

Our phones are with Rogers, and my work phone is with Telus...  nothing, zilch, squat with respect to a extreme weather warning...  but it was on TV...

TV and phones had the the test alert this afternoon...

It came through on my phone which was connected to the car while I was driving doing some errands this afternoon.   I completely forgot about the test and practically jumped out of the driver's seat.

The alerts are geo coded.  If the codes were only for the Caledon and Brampton areas, and your phone was not located within those areas, then you would not receive the alert.  Radio and TV stations whose licensed broadcast area covers those geo codes would broadcast the alert.

Todya's test had geo codes for all areas therefore everyone gets it

The alarm murder robot sound is very eerie, creepy and disturbing sounding.

But it gets everyone’s attention, which is the point.

No it does not. It fails to separate the Amber alert from any other alert.
This sound is an AMBER ALERT sound and nothing more.
It gets ignored and it is not taken seriously.
