Buffalo's #1 Radio Station Fires Morning Show Co-Host
The Fall ratings say WYRK-FM in Buffalo is the #1 station in town. So why would you fire one of the people who helped you get there?
Townsquare Media management told Kadie Daye - one of three morning show co-hosts - they were being forced to make cutbacks and they could no longer afford her salary. So after three years helping inflate their ratings, she's gone.
The Buffalo News' Alan Pergament notes it's the latest instance of how sad the radio industry has become. Even success no longer guarantees you a job.

All the ratings success in the world doesn't insulate a tight-margin business from a 25% dip in the ad market.

Well now we know why WECK is no longer listed in the Buffalo ratings. As I suspected, owner Buddy Shula no longer wanted to pay for the Neilsen service. Anyone have an idea what a Neilsen or Numeris subscription costs?

She couldn't have been making that much since she came out of college to start on the morning show in Buffalo. Looks like Townsquare is eliminating a few morning co-hosts at other stations as well. And maybe they don't care so much that WYRK was number one in the last book, since the #1 spot usually bounces between it and WBLK which they also own. And this one and two flip has been going on for a long time.
Nice to see the Buffalo News still doing stories on the radio business and personalities in their city. Would be nice if Toronto media did the same once in a while. But no, twelve people are protesting outside of Queen's Park, so everyone will cover that.

Makes sense. Being in was probably doing him more harm than good.
He owns an ad agency, which probably brings in most of the radio revenue, and the other agencies wouldn't touch the station since it's tied in with a competing agency and the demos for the station would be terrible.
