Jimmy Kimmel Live "Bonus"

I rarely watch any of the late night talking heads but Monday night  I was watching the football game on my laptop on WABC. World Series was on my tv. I decided to stick around for Kimmel because two of his guests were Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long. During the first commercial break, the screen split in two with the ad on the left and the right was a live shot of the studio with audience members asking questions about the show. No sound obviously because of the ad running at the same time. However it was interesting to see what goes on during the commercial breaks. I have never seen this before. I wonder if the other NYC affilliates do this with Fallon and Colbert. All other ad breaks were normal. Back in 1986 when I was in L.A. I had the opportunity to see The Tonight Show in person when Carson was hosting. In the first commercial break, he answers a few questions from the audience. All other breaks, the lights go down and you listen to the Doc Severinsen orchestra. They were very good.

They do this regularly during the break to keep the audience curious and tuned in. I don't believe I've seen it on any other of the late night talkers, but I also found it intriguing the first time I saw them do this. It did compel you to stay tuned through the long commercial set, which will certainly make the sponsors happy.

Re: Jimmy Kimmel Live "Bonus"

I don't watch Kimmel at night but I usually catch his opening monologue on YouTube in the morning.
His regular trashing of Trump is always super entertaining.
It's hilarious to see Trump constantly "tweet" about him unable to control himself.
He still talks about Kimmel's jokes he told at the Oscars 7 months ago.
But apart from that I think Kimmel is the best of the late night hosts.
He may have jokes written for him, but his delivery is excellent -- and his interviews when I do watch them are reminiscent of Carson, asking real human interest questions, not just hyping their latest projects, movies etc.
I put Colbert in second place, but I get annoyed at how he can't just do a joke and move on.  He has to keep milking it and overindulging in it.
Fallon I liked at first, but I was put off by the stories of his alcoholism and abuse of staff when he's drunk.
He had admitted his behaviour but I don't know whether he's stopped.

The Sim sub blocks a lot of good differences out.
(it really is less than 5%, so no Canadian network is breaking any of the rules)
This is why, sometimes I like to record the Seattle channels instead of the Canadian ones to enjoy for later viewing.

RadioWiz & RadioQuiz are NOT the same person.
RadioWiz & THE Wiz are NOT the same person.

I agree the Canadian networks are not breaking any rules. However, I have always watched U.S. network shows on the originating network and will continue to do so when possible. $3/month to receive the Seattle network affilliates is a pretty inexpensive way to avoid most of the simsubs.

Re: Jimmy Kimmel Live "Bonus"

Kimmel has been doing the picture in picture first commercial break for awhile now.
Colbert also does it on the first commercial break and it can be seen on Channel 4 Buffalo. It shows the band doing a song and then shows Colbert at the desk talking to a segment producer and then shows off the LED lighting display on the ceiling of the Ed Sullivan Theatre.

Re: Jimmy Kimmel Live "Bonus"

Not surprisingly, none of the major network talk show hosts in the U.S. will be on the air come election night. The vote has been the focus of almost every one of their monologues and skits for months.

Their programs are being pre-empted for breaking coverage of the race to the finish line, but they will all certainly have a lot to say come Wednesday night.

That means the only political pundit with an actual show on Election Night itself will be Jon Stewart's The Daily Show on Comedy Central, available in Canada only on the cable channel "Slice."

Can't wait to see what guys like Kimmel come up with on Wednesday, depending on whether a winner is named is by then.
