According to Toronto Mike, Bullard died yesterday.
he may have had his demons but he was always a good friend
I’m stunned.

This is sad news. What he did to Cynthia Mulligan was inexcusable, and his punishment effectively destroyed his career. He deserved what he got, but the guy did have some talent and I actually enjoyed listening to his show before all the legal stuff revealed who he really was.

Bullard's 'Diamond and Diamond... You'll wanna get injured!' is still the funniest tag line ever, until the Law Society ordered them to stop using it.
Online!
There was a story he did about two feuding Toronto jewellers, in which one was accused of shooting at the other. In explaining the story to listeners, Bullard said the slogan for the alleged shooter should be "We kill the competition!"
Been a very long time, but I still remember that line.

The Tom Green raccoon episode with Bullard still is what I think of hearing Mike Bullard's name. RIP.

How odd, just yesterday afternoon I wondered what he was up to. I enjoyed his “Beyond the Mic” show, (he used “Cruel to be Kind” as his theme), he was very talented although his demise was sadly self inflicted. Love can do that to you. R.I.P. Mike Bullard, and thank you for making me laugh many times.

Jason Agnew just started his 1010 Sunday Morning Trivia show talking about Bullard, complimented his talent and his ability to “get a room going”.

The Globe & Mail's Brad Wheeler is arguably the country's finest obituary writer, particularly when there are sensitivity issues.

Sorry to read this.
Never was impressed by his actions later in life but talent-wise he made me laugh.
One Bullard story I remember with genuine fondness was him telling how he & his brother - while hormonal teenagers - would take up positions - one in front of the home television & one behind making every possible effort to improve their crappy reception while tuning in to the Baby Blue Movie on City.
"Is that any better"? "How about that"?
So so funny

I enjoyed his 1010 noonhour show, if only for the button-pushing and shaking up a few fairly standard surrounding hours. Condolences to his family and those closest to him.
The Michael Moriarty appearance on his talk show is legendary and Wendy Crewson's parody at the end is just the icing on the cake.

Aside from his obvious mistakes in his personal life, I think there's a cautionary tale in his TV career. Obviously, in retrospect, leaving CTV for Global was a mistake - though what really killed his Global show was CTV putting the Daily Show with Jon Stewart against it. But he couldn't have anticipated the phenomenon the Daily Show would become or really blame Bullard for taking a risk by crossing the street for more money and control.
Bullard's unforced error was trashing CTV/The Comedy on the way out which guaranteed that if Global didn't pan out there'd be no future projects for him at the only comedy station in the country.

Sad to hear. I enjoyed Mike's noon hour show on CFRB. He was a real change from the other talent at RB. Good that his show was only one hour, any more would have been too much. I actually preferred him on radio than TV. He wasn't as grumpy on radio and his show on 1010 was pretty entertaining.
Reading on wiki, they claim that his talk show on CTV/Comedy Network for a time beat both Jay Leno and David Letterman in the ratings. His late night show did have some good guests, a decent studio band and live audience, also lasted six seasons. I agree with Hansa, beyond his personal problems, Mike never should have burned bridges with CTV/Comedy Network. Pretty much guaranteed he wouldn't be on with Bell again. He did appear from time to time on CBC with their various stand up comedy specials.
The failed Mike Bullard Show on Global had less than half the viewers of Open Mike With Mike Bullard in it's last year, and as mentioned was getting pummeled by The Daily Show on CTV.

Condolences to Bullard's mother who was his occasional guest on his noon-hour News/Talk 1010 program. Given the passage of time, she may have gone to her reward ahead of Mike

Yes, she passed in 2017:
Mike had written (i.e. long Facebook post) she died of a heart attack and has mentioned in more recent interviews that for him it was part of his tailspin.

I enjoyed Bullard's noon to one show on 1010. He was genuinely funny, as opposed to Oakley, who tries to be, and Richards, who never was or is.

Bullard's final tweet and joke was on Sept. 21.
Former CFRB colleague Ryan Doyle mourned his passing on the same site.
Only article I've found so far is from Global, although details are still sparse. As of this posting, nothing seems to be on CTV.

It's always been reported that it was Bullard who decided to leave CTV but according to Bill Brioux today, the head of CTV invited Bullard to lunch and told him his show was being cancelled at the end of its sixth season and presumably that's what prompted Bullard to jump to CTV. Brioux implies though that CTV's decision was due to Bullard being difficult to deal with. Anyway, that makes Bullard's decision to go to Global understandable but burning his bridges with CTV/Comedy Network on the way out the door was still a stupid move.

I have always found it galling that Bell hypes it's "let's talk" about mental illness and pruports to be a bastion of empathy for the mentally struggling.
Yet, ad far as I know they just turned on Bullard in an instant.
I know what he did was absolutely wrong -- criminal stalking of a woman, but it was widely believed he suffered from mental illness.
Bell didn't "talk" about that at all as far as I know.
Such a shame. He was funny and talented apart from his demons.

Yeah, it's clear from Brioux's post that Bullard had issues 20 years ago as well:
A week or so before the premiere [of The Mike Bullard Show on Global], he called me and two other journalists who had covered him for years to a summit at his place.
What we found was a man in crisis. On the positive side, he had five pizzas ready. Everything else, however, was bizarre and very negative. It was like confronting Kurtz at the end of Apocalypse Now. He seemed beyond counsel, so eventually we thanked him for the pizzas and shuffled into an elevator, swearing an oath not to ever disclose a word of what Mike had said.
Unfortunately, Mike kept talking to other reporters. He spoke with one at The Toronto Star, and a front page story emerged. It profiled a bitter man who, a day or two before his new series launched, could not have appeared less sympatheric to the average Star reader. Mike shot himself in both feet.

Mike Bullard - 13 March 2021
Facebook
The Truth........its been 5 years since this hell began and my lawyer told me it would be cathartic to finally tell my side of the story after sitting in court on countless occasions and not being allowed to speak or refute the lies. Another reason I am doing it is because the P.I. my lawyer hired has been charged.with obstruction of justice for simply doing his job (something the police never did)
I dated Mulligan for 10 months during the course of that time she broke up with me 3 times and instigated getting back together each time. I am a gentleman so will not divulge reason(s) she wanted to get back together (in court she said she felt bad for me...only laugh I got that day was when judge rolled his eyes.
When I was charged initially I was released with no conditions. About a week later I was invited to Pam Seatle and Dave Eddies house for dinner with someone new I was dating (I had moved on) the person I was with was willing to attest (my case did not go to trial so she wasn't called) to the fact that Pam kept bringing up the situation even though I asked her to stop. The next day Pam told Mulligan I asked her to intercede on my behalf (when we got to my pre trial Pam could not produce a text from me).
Three days later the Crown charged me with obstruction of justice and the courts made me live with a surety in Stouffville...in my opinion and her husbands that Pam was forced to do that and lie about it in card due to a personal issue that Pam didn't want to be made public....again I will not share. Pam's husband Dave told the P.I. that Pam was blackmailed in to lying over the personal issue.....looking back I can't believe I considered them friends.
As you know by that time 1010 fired me and Mike Bendixen said it was hardest thing he ever did (he is only a manager blaming him for my job loss and the latest round of 1010 firings is ridiculous it came from the top). Shortly after that charge my mother died of a heart attack and I stayed at the hospital most of the night with my brother and his wife....about a week later my gall bladder went septic and I was in the hospital for a week....my lawyer told me not to worry as he had contacted crown and while unsympathetic she allowed it.
When I got out my doctor told me not to go back to Stouffville as I was sleeping on a couch in the basement near the furnace. He made an appointment with the crown to change my surety to my best friend who is a doctor.....when I arrived at office I was told there was no appointment and she wasn't there. The lawyer told me to go ahead....when Pam found out she told Mulligan who in turn told crown and I was charged with breach of bail and move to a friends in Bradford.......nice people did not know them well.
At this point I fired my lawyer and hired another one who eventually got me moved to my brothers in Brantford where I was for over a year awaiting pre trial. After 7 months there the cops showed up again to arrest me for breach of bail on the way to jail they said they didn't know what I had done but crown Meaghan Scott was out to make an example of me....the next morning the judge threw out the charge but it had hit the papers so damage was done...you see when charges are dropped most journalists in Toronto aren't interested.
A year earlier Kevin Donovan wrote in the star that on thanksgiving weekend 2016 I was parked near Mulligans house in other words stalking her (not true as you will soon read). Throughout all Of it I offered to take a polygraph regarding obscene calls and the other charges the detective said case wasn't important enough but he believed me and couldn't believe all the charges.
One day I was in court watching a guy who had broken in his girlfriends apartment and knocked out 2 of her teeth......the crown offered a peace bond and his lawyer took it. That was the day I realized how flawed our system is. Cut to pre trial .........by than I had hired another lawyer since the second one let me down....I watched Mulligan tell lie after lie followed by Pam. The next day the judge called my lawyer and crown in to chambers and told them he didn't trust the testimony and saw no reason to have a trial (I was told by my lawyer 99 percent of time this doesn't happen and it was vindication).
The last day my lawyer was offered a plea deal........if I plead guilty to harassing telecommunications and took 6 months probation everything would be wiped clean.......he told me if I went further by pleading not guilty it would cost me a 120k in legal fees so I accepted the judge even allowed my lawyer to edit her victim statement.
I made no obscene calls and I worked for bell 20 years so I know how to make calls of an obscene nature without going to a pay phone......the voice on the calls was Jamaican not mine......they had a video of a guy making a call late at night on a pay phone who could not be identified and it wasn't me.......even though that's how I got charged.....the guy had a motorcycle not mine......in court she said I interrupted her story one night on a blue Suzuki.....according to her I told her my best friend had one and I borrowed it.....
I have never been on a Suzuki and don't know anyone who owns one......my lawyer got her on that one he said why didn't your cameraman film it? No answer to that one. I did call her twice to ask that her cameraman Jamie Tumulty stop spreading lies about me stalking her she agreed to look in to it. Those calls are what I plead guilty to. Here comes the real surprise........after it was over the Detective offered to call star and tell them not only was I not parked at her house or charged but Mulligan made no complaint..........yet she allowed that lie to sit in the paper for 2 years knowing full well it wasn't true......it fed in to her victim narrative nicely.
The star retracted the story the next day on page 3000 and Donovan says he can't remember where he heard it making him more gossip columnist than reporter. A few days after it was over a friend was contacted by Mulligans current boyfriends boss and wanted me to call him.....when I did he told me if I ever defended myself or exposed anything he would find women to come forward and say I stalked them.....than he went on a rant about hating the me too movement....very strange. I gave him the number for ACTRA and told him to go to hell.
I find it hard to believe Mulligan and her boyfriend weren't part of that. No other women have come forward and never will ask the women at 1010 I have always been a gentleman....and through it all I still believe in the me too movement when the story is true. My only regret is not staying with my previous girlfriend I let her down......her brother and son were like family.
I now realize even though we had problems caused by both of us she was the love of my life. My main concern now is that the P.I. Who I won't name gets out from under this b.s. This farce cost me about 800k in lost income legal fees and savings. I am now doing management work for a friend out of town when I would rather be doing MY job. Please stay safe.

Here is the story from CBC plus an interesting interview from Stoumboulopoulos Tonight. Mike was hosting on CFRB when he was featured on George's talk show.

Sad to hear his passing. My dad used to listen to him a lot on 1010 when he worked in Toronto.

Um yeah, the PI was sentenced to 18 months for attempting to threaten, intimidate, and blackmail witnesses and Mulligan.

I'd almost forgotten about this, but everyone seems to remember Bullard as being only on CFRB during his radio career. After the scandal broke, he wound up doing afternoons with another co-host on Sauga960 for a few months.
It happened just after the long delayed sign-on of CKNT and was a last chance for him to try and revive his career. But it didn't work. The show was not a success and he was gone soon after.
Not one of the obits I read even mentions his time there.
Here's a look back at that first program in October of 2018.

Okey, someone at CP24 should tell their anchor Beatrice Vaisman that it’s “Bullard”, not “Bullards”, which she has said twice so far this morning. Is the producer watching?
