Guess nobody cares about Colbert

I know it's not radio but it is a broadcasting story about our prime minister.
Nobody wants to comment about Stephen Colbert's interview with Justin Trudeau?
My best part was when Colbert asked him about the challenge he is facing from the rising Conservatives under what Colbert described as "Canada's Trump."
Trudeau, very wisely completely ignored that reference and carried on with his talking points familiar to us Canadians, but probably novel for Americans.
But I'll bet Pierre Poilievre was chewing the furniture reminiscent of the performance of actor Bruno Ganz in the movie, "Downfall." when he heard Colbert's comment.

Re: Guess nobody cares about Colbert

Trudeau shouldn't have gone on.

I largely with the politics of the Liberals, but they're completely tone-deaf and out-of-touch.

Him playing up his "celebrity" in challenging times is such a bad look., regardless of whether the challenges are his party's fault or not. He gained nothing from this, and only exacerbated the Liberals' upcoming shellacking.

Good thing it wasn't Trevor Noah hosting, or he might have felt compelled to give him another $50 million taxpayer dollars

Re: Guess nobody cares about Colbert

I don't watch Colbert often but wanted to see last night's interview.  I was surprised the length of time that the PM was on.  Also surprised that Colbert didn't do a very good job with the interview.  In terms of Justin, kind of a nothing segment. Don't think it will either hurt or help him or the party.  I did like when Colbert asked if his show ran in Canada (I thought he had done some promos for Global years ago) and Trudeau said yes it did.  He then said that was part of the reason he was on.

I get the feeling that it was more the Canadian media that was interested in the interview than the public.

Agreed. Hillary certainly proved that celebrity endorsements don't win you an election. We don't need an unfunny U.S. late-night talk show host giving us his slant on Canadian politics.

This reminds me of Rolling Stone magazine's cover story on Justin a few years back with the caption, "Why can't he be our president?" Unless you're a citizen, you can't make a fair assessment of the political climate and living conditions of a country you don't reside in.

Damn, I miss Johnny Carson...

I never bothered to tune in. Maybe I might try to watch it online some place if there is a link.

If it had been Pierre Poillievre, he would've felt compelled to donate $50M to one of Galen Weston's charities. And we'd have an entire segment of that idiot chanting "Bring it home!  Axe the tax! Trudeau sux!!!"   Barf.

Maybe someday the right-wing voters will clue into the fact that the Cons are constantly attacking Trudeau because they want to distract their base from the fact that they have no plans to solve our various societal issues unless it's through privitization or handing taxpayer money over to their donors (see Doug Ford) or cutting social programs for the poor?  Or that "axe the tax" is about cutting the carbon tax for the oil and gas companies, not for the everyday joe?  Sure, vote for the guy spewing Axe the Tax and watch him cut your tax rebate while you still pay the carbon tax at the pump...

I'd rather watch 10 hours of Trudeau talking about Canada's positive qualities than watch a minute of PeePee spewing his negative shit again and again.

Re: Guess nobody cares about Colbert

Um, this is a forum about radio and television, not partisan politics. I get that the PM was on a late night talk show, and that's worthy of discussion on this forum. But there is no need to drag partisan views into it and turn the discussion into a huge debate between stripes. That's not what Big Yella is all about... I'm sure we are all fully capable of talking broadcasting and media here in a civil and respectful manner without bringing partisan politics into any thread.

Man, I hate how partisan political debate can no longer be avoided...

Re: Guess nobody cares about Colbert

I agree. I'm already getting complaints about political topics rearing its head here - again!

Don't get me wrong - I'm a political junkie and am probably over-immersed in this stuff. But I try to keep it off the board, unless it's a government policy (like the recent moves surrounding streaming) or a decision from the CRTC that directly affects TV or radio in this country. Because it tends to irritate so many members. My bad for letting it go on for so long.

Time to retire this subject and hope we can keep it out of here as much as possible in the future. Given the political polarization in North America, I know that's a tough ask! So with that in mind, here's a list of 80 political blogs and websites of 2024 you can try if have a comment to make in this area.

We now return you to our regular SOWNY Board, already in progress.
