Red Barber was the first MLG PA announcer. He was abruptly fired after he mispronounced Liberal leader Lester B. Pearson's name. He had been invited to drop the ceremonial puck to open the Leafs 1961-62 season. Barber introduced him as "Lester Beer Person"
