Could This Upgraded Shortwave Signal Actually Reach Canada?
It's not often you hear about a new shortwave service or transmitter on the planet, but there's a massive 100,000 watt tower in New Zealand that has changed that. I can't think of a place farther away from Canada than a place beyond Down Under. Is this a signal those of us who still have a SW radio could possibly try to receive?

The broadcasts are aimed at the South Pacific - it's likely there would be reception on the Canadian west coast but I doubt we'd receive it reliably in Ontario. I'm sure the remaining DXers here will be trying though.

It would be quite a catch. Although I have gotten Radio Australia back in the heyday of short wave, so I guess anything's possible given the right conditions. But yes, it was aimed this way, which helped.

Back in the heyday I would sometimes get Australian regional broadcasts for the outback in the morning here in WNY.

I still have the QSL card I got from RNZ in January of 1995, when this radio was brand new. My wife had surprised me by giving it to me for Christmas in 1994. We were dirt poor back then and she must have saved up her money for a long time.
RNZ was one of the first SW stations I got on it.
Shortly after that, I got a new job that involved a lot of travel and a lot of nights in hotels. The radios in hotel rooms are notoriously poor quality. The DX 370 became my travel companion. I took it everywhere. It survived a fall from my second story balcony in Mexico.
Today, the radio is old and beat up looking, just like its owner. But I still use it every day.
I'll post the RNZ QSL as soon as I find it.
After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.

Here is the current sked. for transmissions that reach Ontario [they actually broadcast around the clock]. Valid until the clocks change [damn]:
fade in around 10-11 PM on 17675 to 1 AM
1-3 AM 13690
3-9 AM 9700

Some of the guys using these claim to have logged a rare station when, in reality, they've only seen a tiny blip on the screen at that frequency.
After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.
