A CHUM Question For Doug Thompson

I'm guessing this was some kind of contest or promotion - or maybe an April Fool's Day joke. These were the CHUM Charts from April 1 &  8, 1963. Who are the people listed and why were they there for only two days? Any idea what this was and who those people were? Was this some sort of a DJ swap with a Montreal station?

(Interesting to note that Brian Skinner is on the first list, but not on the goodbye one.)

Re: A CHUM Question For Doug Thompson

Since we are dealing with the beginning of the month, it looks like an April Fools gag to me with CKGM. CFOX didn't flip to Top 40 until 1965.

One thing you can say for sure about CHUM in that era is that they had some brilliant promotions people, led by the great Allen Farrell. He seemed to be a fountain of never-ending ideas and they all got attention. What a legend.

Re: A CHUM Question For Doug Thompson

CHUM's owner Allan Waters was good friends with CKGM's owner Geoff Stirling. As well, CKGM's George Davies was CHUM's consultant. Program Director Allan Slaight and Promotions Director Allen Farell came up with this scheme to switch on-air staff for April Fool's day that year. It was only supposed to be for the day, but it lasted a couple of days. Bob Laine told me that Geoff Stirling treated the CHUM guys like gold, wining and dining them.

Brian Skinner, who'd just come over to CHUM from CKEY in January of '63 was the only DJ who stayed in Toronto.

Just another zany CHUM promotion.

Thanks for the answer. If anyone would remember, I knew it would be you! What a great April 1st prank.
