Had a Bell techician over to the house today
A clap of thunder Monday morning that sounded like two high powered rifle shots in quick succession knocked us off line in a big way.
So here comes "Dave" and he works for about 90 minutes, half his time spent in the outside heat testing lines etc. & the rest in several diffent rooms in our home. As I was directing Dave to our basement for a look at a few more boxes and cables & just where he needed to go he said to me "you should be in radio".
Haven't been on the air for decades but I took Daves' remark as a compliment & my media career flashed before my eyes. LOL
Anyone else get the same sort of response from people/strangers they meet in everyday life?

I've had "you sound nothing like you do on the radio."
Good processing did me a LOT of favours.

Very often, esp. from locals and clients who don't know that I a) worked in radio for 20 years, and b) do freelance VO work in addition to my most popular service, videotape & film transfer to digital.

Used to know a lady to whom I always said "You should be on radio." She had a beautiful voice. Whenever she left me a voice mail, I would save it for days and play it over and over again. Sadly, she died tragically in a car accident.

I had a few PDs who said I shouldn't be in radio!

People tell me all the time that I should be in radio, great radio voice and all.
Some people have heard my old radio stuff (unscoped airchecks) while others simply think I have a great radio voice.

I get - "you sound like what's his name!". But then I think - who the Hell is what's his name?". lol Then they say - "Steve. Steve something. I can't remember his last name.". :-)

When I began my time on air, people who met me in person would comment how young I was, that I sounded older on air. Near the end of my time in radio people would say how I sounded younger than I looked.

I was always told that I sounded taller.
