Attn. Global News: Please, Please, Please Fix This!

I'm down to begging you guys. It concerns the most important part of your newscast for me, your weather - and the graphics that illustrate the forecast.

I watch the weather so I can see the best time to take the dog out, who refuses to walk in any kind of rain. (So Wednesday's rolling out the Beryl deluge is going to be especially challenging!) I like both meteorologists Anthony Farnell and Russ Hull and find they often seem to have the most accurate forecasts. And that's why the "Futurecast," which times out when the worst of the weather is going to hit, is so useful to me. Sometimes, I even watch it in slow-mo to try to get a better idea of the timing, because it moves so fast.

But here's the problem. That map is designed in such a way that the weather presenter is almost ALWAYS standing right in front of the clock that maps out the most likely time for rain. (See two examples from Tuesday's 6 PM news below.)

They do this every single night and it drives me crazy (admittedly, not a long drive.) I believe Farnell is taller than Hull and it's even worse when he's on. The timing of the storm doesn't do me or your viewers any good if you can't see it 70% of the time. All it would take is a slight redesign of this graphic, moving the clock to the other side of the screen. There is no point in showing this if you're just going to block it with your head every single night. It's incredibly frustrating when you can't see the one thing you're looking for most.

Please fix this once and for all. It simply can't be that hard to do. I almost never see this on other stations, so I know it can be done. Because as it stands now, it's way past "time."

Or...maybe just look out the window before taking the mutt out for a poop...

It's not a real Canadian forecast unless it mentions Chibougamu.

Sounds logical, except I often need to plan it in advance. For example, he usually goes at 9:30 PM for a final walk. But if I know it's going to be pouring out then, I can change the timing. Which is why the map works so well, if I could just see the time!

This is why it is good to be a Carl Lam fan, I suppose. 99% of the time he is only audio, and never seen for CityNews weather...it's often (or always) week-ends, but hey? There you go...

At least Global shows the Sudbury district on their map. My wish is that they and CTV/CBC would realize their weekend news shows are now the only TV source for information for the entire province. The weather Network has never recovered to what they were prior to the hack which is what, almost 18 months ago ? It is a waste of time to even tune it in now.

At other Global stations, the weather people usually stand on the left side of the screen, or are framed so that their heads don’t hit that timestamp.

Was there a memo that Global Toronto missed? Or are the monitors that the Toronto weather anchors use to look at on the left and they’re forced to stand on the right?

Which is easier to move: the graphics or the presenter?

Hey. It's better than CTV London. They don't even have a weather report on weekends. On a long weekend it's three consecutive days and nights with no weather report. At this time of year, when violent weather can erupt, it's downright irresponsible.

After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.
