So he had this guy on from Edmonton today discussing the city and the Stanley Cup/Game7. Everything was going fine until the end. It went something like this:
Jim: thanks for being on the show
Edmonton guy: anytime
Jim: do you think I will have you on again?
five seconds of silence
Edmonton guy: always glad to come on
Jim: Thanks
Was Richards trying to be funny? Did he misunderstand what the guy said? Sounded like an ass.

Reminds me of an experience from my own Caffeine Free show on 89.5 CIUT back in the late 90s ...
It went something like this:
Saul: Thank you very much, Andrew, for joining us today.
Saul: That was Andrew Pakula, from Science for Peace in Toronto. Up next we have --
Andrew: Can I hang up now?
Saul: Yes, please (with friendly-but-pleading glare at the technician behind the glass to please close down the phone connection the moment an interview ends).
Andrew and I knew one-another fairly well. So I can only presume he thought we'd have a quick chat at the end of it all. Anyhow, I recall that we had been discussing genocide. We talked about that often. So I think this was a just a badly needed comedic gift from the heavens. Man, I wish I'd saved that audio!

Happened to catch several minutes of Richards in the car today.
He was trying to give out the number to call.
it went like this, "so call 1...no not one, it's just 416..."
A few minutes later, "so give us a call at 1... not to 1, just 416."
A few minutes later, so call in, that's 1... no I know it's just 416...."
Still, Richards has lived a charmed life on 1010.
Yes, he has repeatedly been relegated to nighttime or over night hours, but they just don't get rid of him.
The first time I heard him I was listening to 1010 and I thought I must have moved the dial and somehow got a radio station in New Liskeard, Ontario or something.
I thought, man this guy won;t last out the week.
huh.

Far be it from me to defend Mr. Richards, because I'm also not a fan, but I cut him a little bit of slack because of his dyslexia, which is a real problem if you need to read copy live on air. I think the phone number issue was force of habit - he normally works on a national show where the number begins with "1" and then ten more digits. In this case, he was doing local afternoons, so his brain was not used to giving out the local 416 phone number.
Still, no excuse for it happening that often.

Richards is un-listenable. Has been for years. He must have compromising photos of Bell execs.

I love Jim Richards - by far my favourite personality on 1010.

Jim can be really good, but anyone who likes Agar will hate him, and vice-versa.
1010 needs to pick a lane; at this point they're like a music station playing both Easy Listening and Heavy Metal.

I don't like either of them. They're both grating, but at least Agar sounds as though he has some clue on the topic.

There's a certain confidence in being completely ignorant.

I can't stand Agar & I can't stand Richards .. but for totally different reasons .. both are simply unlistenable to me; so I don't.

Quite true.
And it's a thing.
It's called the Dunning Kruger effect.
In psychology, a cognitive bias whereby people with limited knowledge or competence in a given intellectual or social domain greatly overestimate their own knowledge or competence in that domain relative to objective criteria or to the performance of their peers or of people in general.
