3.5 Million Watch First Oilers/Panthers Game On Saturday

And that doesn't include viewers watching  French coverage on TVA Sports. Sportsnet had 1,928,000 watching, CBC with 1,230,000 and the ABC/ESPN coverage on City stations across Canada brought in 317,000.

In the US 3.1 million Americans watched the game on ESPN/ABC.  This is a 12% increase from last year with the first game of the Panthers/Las Vegas Golden Knights final series which was on TNT/TBS/truTV in the US.

Re: 3.5 Million Watch First Oilers/Panthers Game On Saturday

If [the when is still very much in doubt] the Leafs make the Stanley Cup Final, Ratings would probably be 6M+ in Canada. I also did a little research on the Ticketmaster site to compare prices in Florida and Edmonton. I converted the Florida prices at a generous rate of 1.40. Game two tickets in Florida were generally in the $580-$650 range for upper bowl corners/behind the net. Game one tickets in Edmonton ranged from $1300-$1900 upper bowl behind the net and $2000-$2300 lower bowl behind the net. If the Leafs were in the Final, I suspect a downpayment on a house would be cheaper.

Turns out the son of Panthers coach Paul Maurice has worked in radio as a producer and is still in the game as a sports broadcaster, hockey of course, details above.

I'm very happy for the talented Paul Maurice and the success he's had since leaving the Leafs. And he has a great voice, perfect for broadcasting. Guess it runs in the family.

During the long summer time dog days of not much to talk about on sports radio while we're waiting for the 2024 NHL fall season to start up, the OverDrive guys or Ray and Dregs, or the Real Kyper, or Jeff Marek and Elliot Friedman... someone! should do a short daily feature every radio show on the success some, heck, a goodly number of former Toronto players and coaches experience after departing the storied original six franchise and how much/whether their limitations as perceived by the coaching staff and public were valid.

Charles Barkley who is always funny and entertaining, let the F bomb slide the other night live on Sportsnet.  Charles was being interviewed by Sportsnet's Kyle Bukaskus on Monday during the Panthers/Edmonton game when briefly tripped up.  From USA Today..https://ftw.usatoday.com/2024/06/charles-barkley-accident-f-bomb-interview-stanley-cup-nhl

Fans are having a field day online over a bizarre choice of desk during ESPN's coverage of the Panthers-Oilers game on Saturday night. But it turns out, there's a reason for it. Although it does look very cheesy.

ESPN’s broadcast desk for the Stanley Cup Final had fans drawing comparisons to IKEA furniture

Does every Edmonton Oilers fan have a jersey or some sort of Oilers clothing?  Inside and outside of  Rogers Place last night and even many of the 10,000 at the Shania Twain concert were all decked out in Oilers wear. I have never seen so many fans wearing the hometown colours at a game.  Also watch for the fans in Florida start to sing the US national anthem on Tuesday.  This has happened before when the American fans see their neighbours to the north singing both national anthems (obviously O Canada much louder) and they tend to begin to do the same.

Most likely. An exec from the Oilers Entertainment Group was clipped on one of the local newscasts this week saying the Oilers were usually top 5 in the league when it comes to merchandise sales.

Re: 3.5 Million Watch First Oilers/Panthers Game On Saturday

Canadian overnight ratings show Monday's June 10th game between Edmonton and Florida dipped by over half a million viewers.

Sportsnet had 1,594,000 watching, CBC 1,061,000 and the ABC/ESPN simsub on City stations 229,000 for a total of 2,884,000 in English Canada.  The number does not include TVA Sports French coverage.

The Weakest Link ironically on CTV was the highest rated regularly scheduled show in Canada with 382,000 viewers.
